Twitter Trends
Come To Liverpool
PEOPLE in Liverpool will be
able to get closer to things going in their area thanks to the
launch of 100 new trending cities on Twitter. Liverpool is one
of 100 places worldwide that have been added to Twitter's Trending
cities list this week. This means that people in the Liverpool area
will be able to see what's popular on Twitter, right where they
live. It joins the list cities available via Twitter trends
alongside 99 others around the world, including Yokohama (Japan),
Istanbul (Turkey), Ottowa (Canada), Rome (Italy) and Melbourne
(Australia).
Trends highlight things being talked about on Twitter and allow
users to connect with topics that are of interest to them. Twitter
users in Liverpool can now keep abreast of the latest news, hot
topics and conversations going on around them.
Trends are automatically generated by an algorithm that identifies
topics that are being talked about more right now than they were
previously, so you can see the 'most breaking' breaking news rather
than just what's most popular. Trends feature all sorts of topics
from TV shows, gigs, football matches, elections, and conversation
starters like #nowplaying, where users share their music choices
with other Twitter users.
To browse trends in Liverpool, Twitter users just need to click "change"
in the Trends sidebar on the left hand side of their screen when
logged into the service.
And if you're new to Twitter, joining has never been easier - just
head to Twitter.com and enter an email address and a password. You
don't even have Tweet to be on Twitter - 40% of users of the service
use it as a place to keep up to date on news from people and

'Footsteps of
Giants' book 'running' off shelves
A SPECIAL book capturing
Liverpool's most successful ever event has been flying off the
shelves. In the footsteps of GIANTS, a glossy 104 page book
re-living Sea Odyssey – Liverpool's unforgettable event which
commemorated the centenary of the sinking of the Titanic - has been
so successful that there was a backlog of orders by the time a
reprint was ordered.
In less than a month the first 2,000 editions of the book had sold
out prompting publishers to order a reprint of a further 1,500
copies. The additional copies were sent into shops on 24 November
and there are now limited numbers available.
Liverpool City Council's cabinet member for culture and tourism,
Councillor Wendy Simon, said:- "We have been overwhelmed by
the fantastic number of sales of this book. The response has
been phenomenal and just goes to show how much the Little Girl Giant
meant to the people of Liverpool. They took these three special
visitors to their hearts and it is wonderful to know that so many
people will have the book as a keepsake for many years to come. It
will be something wonderful to show their children and
grandchildren. I would urge anyone who is thinking of getting
a copy of the book to make sure they do so before it sells out
again."
Waterstones in Liverpool One has been particularly successful with
many shoppers picking up a copy no doubt as the perfect Christmas
gift for a loved one.
Commissioned by Liverpool City Council, the book is full of nearly
150 images, which re-trace the journey of the Little Girl Giant, her
Uncle and mischievous dog Xolo as they travelled around the city
during 3 very special days in April 2012.
The beautiful pictures were taken by professional and amateur
photographers. In May, the city council urged people who were part
of the 800,000-strong crowds to send in stunning pictures they may
have taken during the event. Hundreds were received and after weeks
of deliberation, the images were whittled down to just 147.
The book, which costs £9.99, is still available to buy in the
Tourist Information Centres in St George's Hall and Albert Dock, the
Liverpool ONE information centre as well as Waterstones on Bold
Street and in Liverpool ONE. National Museums Liverpool are also
selling copies and they are available in the shops located in the
Walker Art Gallery, Museum of Liverpool, Merseyside Maritime Museum,
World Museum and Lady Lever Art Gallery. It can also be
ordered
online.
