3 Vehicle Crash
On Formby Bypass
ON Tuesday, 29 January
2013, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service attended a 3 vehicle road
collision near the junction of Park Wall Road in Thornton, on Ince
Lane, that is part of the Formby Bypass. The collision happened
around 9:30am and involved a black Fiat car, a black Nissan car and
a commercial van. A man and woman, believed to be in their 20s, who
were in the Fiat, and had to be freed from the vehicle by
firefighters using hydraulic cutting equipment. The man suffered
suspected neck and leg injuries and the woman is believed to have
suffered chest pain. The man was taken to Aintree Hospital and the
woman was taken to Southport Hospital. A man who is believed to be
in his 60s was out of the 2nd vehicle before firefighters arrived
and is not believed to have been injured. 2 men, aged around 30, had
also got out of the van before the firefighters arrived. Merseyside
Fire and Rescue Service said that it had sent 2 fire appliances, 1
from Crosby and Bootle Station, along with 1 from Netherton
Community Fire Station. the also added that:- "Firefighters
made the vehicles safe and they had been on location for just over 1
hour."

up in Red' Zumba class
ROCK up in Red day is fast
approaching with the aim of bringing people together of all
relations to join forces in the fight against heart and circulatory
diseases. Movema will be pulling up their red zumba gloves to help
fight the cause with an all red energetic Zumba class to help raise
awareness for the British Heart foundation Friday, 1 February 2013,
from
11am to 12pm, at:- The Black-E, Chinatown, Liverpool L1 5EW.
Heart and circulatory disease is the biggest killer in the UK and
one of the most important ways to stop this number one killer is
exercise and an active lifestyle. Movema understands this and wants
to help the British Heart Foundation put heart and circulatory
disease behind bars once and for all by promoting good health and an
active lifestyle. Co-Director Ithalia Forel says:- "It's a perfect opportunity
for the community to come together and have plenty of fun in
fighting the cause! The session will raise awareness for British
Heart Foundation and the positive benefits of our dance-fitness
classes. All participants are invited to wear something RED for the
themed session and bring as many guests as you like'

Excellence Awards Are Spotlighting The Tree...mendous In Woodlands
THE countdown has begun for
woodland owners and lovers to throw the spotlight on the very best
of woodlands in the North West. The Royal Forestry Society (RFS)
Excellence in Forestry Awards 2013 seek to reward the very best in 5
forestry competition categories:-
► multipurpose woodlands
► silviculture
► small woodland
► community woodlands
► for the first time, in conjunction with Forestry Commission
England, urban forestry.
The North West has some exceptional woodlands and forest chiefs are
keen to see owners step forward to represent the region in an awards
scheme which this year also covers parts of the West Midlands and
all of Cumbria.
Owners, managers and woodland lovers have until 4 March 2013 to

An additional Schools Award is also being offered for the most
inspirational projects involving nurseries, schools or other
educational organisations which increase young people's
understanding and appreciation of the environmental, social and
economic potential of trees, woodlands and forests.
At stake are £1000 top prizes and £500 second prizes in each of the
categories, RFS President Nick Halsey says:- "Woodlands and
trees play a vital role in all aspects of our lives – from helping
to combat climate change and providing timber, to enhancing our
environment and leisure activities. By shining the spotlight on the
very best a region has to offer, we are able to share best practice
amongst other woodland owners and managers at a time when the threat
of pests and diseases to our woodlands is very real."
