Pledges To Put Garden Centre At The Heart of The Community
A Whitestake garden centre
is due to benefit from a £100,000 makeover in the next 6 weeks as
its new owners implement ambitious plans to place it at the heart of
its local community as a place that those of all ages will wish to
visit.
Duxbury's has taken over the Turbary House garden centre on
Chainhouse Lane at Whitestake and is already working on key features
of the building, which will make it more welcoming and gardener
friendly, warmer and full of things to do for all the family.
A new café area is due to be created, along with exciting new
leisure areas within the building and outside areas. A children's
party room is planned along with activities such as archery, wall
climbing and French boules. An exciting range of giftware will have
its own retail area.
The garden centre is also inviting complimenting concessions to join
the centre, including a child-focused business and specialist
supplier/repairer of gardening equipment.
Duxbury's has built a reputation for its customer service and value
for money approach to business. It founded its gardening services
business in 1992 and has a loyal clientele stretching across central
Lancashire and the Fylde Coast.
Duxbury's also owns a homes sales and lettings business, which
offers a unique service, which includes garden maintenance as part
of its offer. The business also operates another smaller garden
centre at Charnock Farm in Leyland, where there is a coffee shop,
leisure lake with ducks, miniature donkeys, pygmy goats, tiny horses
and a popular restaurant.
Duxbury's owner, Frank Duxbury, says:- "We are delighted to
add the Turbary House garden centre to our portofolio of businesses
and will be re-branding it as the Duxbury's Garden Centre Whitestake.
Duxbury's is a family brand and we will be making sure that our
garden centre is a fun place to visit whether you are 5 or 95."
The new Duxbury's garden centre should be showcasing its new
facilities by the first week of March and will be staging an
official opening. In the meantime, it is still very much open for
business with the café serving a range of snacks and meals and hot
and cold drinks for those seeking to escape the cold.
SEFTON RESIDENTS ENCOURAGED TO
REGISTER THEIR VALUABLES FOR FREE TO THWART THIEVES
RESIDENTS across Sefton are
being urged to sign up to a free scheme aimed at deterring burglars
and thieves from taking their belongings.
The Immobilise scheme allows people to register their laptops,
bikes, smart phones and other valuables on a secure database which
the Police have access to.
If officers investigating a burglary, robbery or theft come across
stolen goods, it allows them to match them up with their rightful
owner.
The database can be accessed by Police officers all over the country
meaning that thieves are hampered in their efforts to sell things
quickly on.
Neighbourhood officers will be running sessions at schools and
community events throughout February to encourage as many people as
possible to sign up
Visit the neighbourhood pages of the Merseyside Police website to
see when there is a session near where you live and follow the
Immobilise.com link to find out
how to register online for free.

The offender and his friend left the bar shortly

Elderly woman has handbag taken in
'cowardly and appalling' robbery
THE Police Detectives from
British Transport Police (BTP) are calling for the public's help
after a 'cowardly' thief punched and robbed an elderly
woman of her handbag at Roby rail station on Tuesday, 22 January
2013. Detective Constable Mark Douglas, leading
the investigation, explained:- "The 72 year old victim was
walking in a subway at Roby rail station around 5.40pm when she was
approached from behind by a man and punched. Although she bravely
struggled with him, the man was able to prise the handbag from her
grasp before making off along Church Road."
The bag was later found discarded nearby in the grounds of Roby
Parish Church, near to Forrest Drive, with the woman's purse and
between £30 to £40 cash missing.
Police believe the man is around 5' 11" tall and of stocky build. He
was wearing a dark, heavy coat with possibly a 'North Face' white
motif across the shoulder and chest. He had his coat hood covering
his face and wore a woollen hat underneath. He was also wearing
thick black gloves. Officers are following a number of
avenues of enquiry as part of their investigation into the incident
and are calling on the public to help identify the man responsible.
DC Douglas added:- "This was understandably a very frightening
experience for the victim, who was left very shaken by this
incident. This man's actions were cowardly and appalling and we will
do everything we can to find the person responsible. I would urge
anyone with information that could help our investigation, no matter
how insignificant it may seem, to get in touch."
Police advice for protecting your valuables:-
Be alert, walk upright, briskly and appear confident.
Carry your handbag in a secure position in front of your body. Keep
all fasteners close and ensure they are facing towards your body.
Carry wallets, mobiles and other small valuables in a secure inside
pocket.
Mark all valuable property (iPod, mobile etc) with your postcode and
house number/name. This can be done with a permanent marker, UV
marker or engraving.
Keep your mobile out of sight when not in use and set it to vibrate
to attract less attention. When using your mobile in public, never
disclose personal information and always be aware of your
surroundings.
Your mobile has a unique number programmed into it called the IMEI.
To access it type:- *#06# into your mobile and note the number. This
will assist your service provider in blocking its use should your
phone be lost or stolen.
If travelling late at night, try to travel in a busy carriage. If
people get off, don't be afraid to move. Consider travelling close
to the driver or guard to boost your sense of security.
When on stations look for CCTV cameras and try to stay within view.
Avoid short-cuts and dark alleys, especially at night.
Register all your electronic equipment at:-
