Vue Southport to
screen classic operatic tales live from the Royal Opera House and
Metropolitan Opera House
VUE Southport is set to
screen captivating performances of Eugene Onegin, broadcast live via
satellite from London's Covent
Garden on 20 February at 19:15pm, and the dark tragedy of Rigoletto;
broadcast live from the Metropolitan Opera House in New York on 16
February 2013.
Eugene Onegin tells the tale of a selfish hero who lives to regret
his rejection of a young woman's love and his careless incitement of
a fatal duel with his best friend. Encapsulating the fragile and
turbulent emotions of youth, self-realisation and finally the
yearning to go back and undo what cannot be undone, it's an opera
full of poignancy and exquisite sensitivity to the feelings of
growing up and wrestling to understand your emotions.
Rigoletto is a tragic three act opera by Giuseppe Verdi. The story,
updated to 1960 and set in Las Vegas, revolves around the womanising
Duke of Mantua, his tragic side-kick Rigoletto, and Rigoletto's
beautiful daughter Gilda. The opera's original title, La maledizione
(The Curse), refers to the curse placed on both the Duke and
Rigoletto by a courtier whose daughter had been seduced by the Duke
with Rigoletto's encouragement. The curse comes to light when Gilda
likewise falls in love with the Duke and eventually sacrifices her
life to save him from the assassins hired by her father.
Each performance will be presented via Vue's Breatht4King Sony
Digital 4K projectors, which deliver a new level of picture quality
to every seat. With four times the megapixels of 2K and HD, theatre
fans will be amazed by the detail and fluidity of images. Sony 4K
Digital screens give cinema goers an experience they simply can't
get at home and as each performance is filmed from several positions
in the theatre, audiences will get views that theatre-goers simply
will not see.
Dave Pearce, Film Programmer of Vue Entertainment, comments:-
"We are thrilled to be bringing more alternate content screenings to
our cinemas across the UK. Over the year we'll be screening a number
of live performances by the Royal Opera House, Metropolitan Opera
House and National Theatre, giving culture vultures and newcomers
the chance to see famous classical productions, such as Eugene
Onegin and Rigoletto, without having travel to London or New York.
Our screens and audio-visual equipment bring out the best of each
performance and go one better by providing shots of all the drama
from several different angles, something you can't get in the
theatre. Following the recent success of La Boheme, from the Royal
Opera House, and Aida, from the Metropolitan Opera House, we're sure
that audiences will be just as excited to witness the deep emotional
scenes of Eugene Onegin, and the touching, tragic story of Rigoletto."
Tickets are now on sale on the VUE
website.

CCTV image
released after Manchester Arena violence
BRITISH Transport Police
Officers have released the CCTV image of a man they would like to
speak to in connection with an assault at the Manchester Arena. The
incident happened at around 10.15pm on Friday, 2 November 2013, last
year during a Nicki Minaj concert. A member of security staff had
removed a group of men from the arena when one, in protest, began
opening and closing a door back into the venue; kicking it towards
the member of staff. PC Lindsey Lightfoot said:- "The 35 year
old guard managed to put his foot between the door and the frame to
stop being hit, but the man swung a punch through the gap which
connected with the guard's face. As a result the guard suffered
bruising and a cut lip which required stitches." Offices
have followed a number of lines of enquiry and, as a result, have
isolated the CCTV image of a man who may have key information. PC
Lightfoot added:- "As yet we have been unable to identify the
offender, but I believe the man pictured has vital information about
the assault, and may have travelled on towards Liverpool following
the incident. The security guard was simply doing his job and the
aggression shown towards him is totally unacceptable." If
you recognise the man, or have any information about the incident,
please contact British Transport Police on:- 0800 40 50 40 or call
Crimestoppers, anonymously, on:- 0800 555 111. In all calls please
quote background log:- B7/NWA of 04/02/13.
