4 students cause
a 'stir' for the Linda McCartney Centre
4 students from Liverpool
Hope University left the Royal Liverpool University Hospital
fundraising team shaken and stirred with a donation of more than
£1,100.
Stephanie Ellison, Stacey McCarthy, Daniel Conchie and Sophie Hughes
had to organise and host a charity event as part of their leisure
and tourism degree, so they decided to hold a cocktail evening at
Hannah’s Bar on Leece St in Liverpool.
Stephanie suggested the Royal's Linda McCartney Centre as their
chosen charity as both her mother and grand-mother were treated
there for breast cancer.
Stephanie said:- "I will always be so incredibly grateful to
the Linda McCartney Centre for looking after my mum and nan when
they were ill, so it is really great to have been able to give
something back. The event was a real success with more than 90
guests. We also managed to rope in one of our friends who provided
live music, we had a raffle and a prize draw, as well as a Best
Dressed Male and Female prize, all of which enabled us to raise well
over a thousand pounds for our chosen charity."
The Linda McCartney Centre opened in 2000, bringing together a state
of the art breast assessment unit, a purpose built chemotherapy
unit, an outpatient unit and a research and development department
to oversee over 500 different forms of research within the Royal
Liverpool University Hospital.
Due to the services provided by the Linda McCartney Centre, patients
from all over the North West receive some of the most advanced and
ground-breaking treatments available in the UK today. Since the
Centre opened, more than 14,000 patients have been treated for over
20 different types of cancer.
Loren Slade, community and events fundraiser at the Royal said:-
"We are extremely grateful to Stephanie, Stacey, Daniel and
Sophie for their very generous donation. To attract so many guests
to a ticketed event is really impressive and if this cocktail
fundraiser is anything to go by, we are sure that all four students
are going to do very well in their degrees."
