Liverpool City
Region and West Cheshire - charged with success!
MERSEYTRAVEL has been
successful in its bid to provide electric vehicle charging points
across the Liverpool City Region and West Cheshire.
The bid, to the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) Electric
Charging Infrastructure Grant Fund, was led by Merseytravel on
behalf of Haltom, Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens, Wirral and
Cheshire West and Chester Councils, will see a total of 126 charging
connections installed across the region, including some at rail
stations.
The project will provide a network of charging points at key
locations to support electric vehicle (EV) travel throughout the
area, overcoming the current lack of charging points on public land
and near businesses. Charging points at rail stations will link
people with the public transport network, allowing them to continue
their sustainable journey on the Merseyrail Network.
Councillor Liam Robinson, Chair of Merseytravel said:- "The
introduction of charging points will offer benefits to residents and
businesses, integrating them with key sites for transport,
employment and healthcare. Through the development of the
electric charging infrastructure, our vision is for electric and
other low emission vehicles to play a role in developing a vibrant
low carbon economy across the region, leading the field in the move
to reduce reliance of the transport system on fossil fuel such as
oil."
Mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson, said:- "I very much welcome
this move. It is a big step forward in making the City region
greener and cleaner as it will help reduce pollution and improve our
air quality."
Robert Hough, Chair of Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise
Partnership, said:- "The LEP were delighted to support the bid
as it delivers a vital piece of low carbon infrastructure. The
development of low emission vehicles and innovative networks are key
priorities in the City Region's Low Carbon Economy Action Plan. We
hope to use the development of the charging point network as a
springboard to further investments in the areas of low emission
vehicle research and manufacturing."
Mayor of Ellesmere Port and CWAC Councillor for Whitby, Bob Crompton
said:- "We are delighted with this announcement which allows
us to introduce electric charging points at Hooton and Ellesmere
Port railway stations. Providing this kind of infrastructure will
contribute towards our ambitious local smarter travel objectives,
and will provide a greener way for car drivers to access our local
rail network at key Park and Ride locations. Importantly it also
demonstrates how we are working to address air quality issues
locally, whilst also supporting local employers involved in the car
manufacturing business."
The project will help to reduce emissions from transport in relation
to both Carbon and Air Quality and promote a cleaner, low emission
transport system. Connecting private travel with public transport
will support wider use of sustainable travel options including
cycling and walking, with vehicle use when required.
Search for dangerous Adam Mark
continues AN
exceptionally dangerous man who absconded from prison continues to
be sought. Adam Mark was serving a life-sentence after being
convicted in 1996 of 3 rapes and 1 attempted rape of women and
girls. He is considered to be a danger to the public and
particularly children. On a number of occasions he has targeted
women and girls alighting from buses or who were at bus stops as
well as a woman walking her dog alone. A police investigation is
underway to urgently find Adam Mark and return him to prison. At
this stage we believe he may still be in the Bristol area, and he
has links to Yorkshire although it is possible he has travelled to
other parts of the country. Adam Mark was last seen at HMP Leyhill
in South Gloucestershire on Tuesday, 30 July 2013. He was seen outside the
reception area at the prison at 7.30pm and is thought to have left
sometime between 7.30 to 9.30pm. He is described as a white man,
about 5ft 6ins tall of medium build with short cropped brown hair.
He wears a diamond earring in his left ear, is clean shaven and has
blue eyes. He also has tattoos and when he went missing was wearing
a grey coloured tracksuit. Detective Inspector Jill Kells, who is
coordinating the search for him, said:- "Adam Mark is a very
dangerous man. He is serving a life sentence for a series of
stranger sex attacks against women and children as young as 12. He
has also carried out robberies to fund his drug habit. We know he
had started using drugs again before he absconded from prison. We
are doing all we can to can to locate Adam Mark and return him to
prison. We think he may still be in Bristol, but we do not have
confirmation of that so he could be anywhere in the country. If you
see him please don't approach him but contact the police immediately
by calling:- 999." Anyone who knows where Adam Mark has been
since he absconded, or knows where he is now, should contact the
Police immediately on:- 101. |

"I am writing to let your
readers know that at Diabetes UK we are looking for enthusiastic
volunteers in Southport to help collect money at their local Tesco
store.
14 volunteers are needed to support the Big Collection weekend
taking place at stores in Southport on 4 October 2013 to 6 October 2013.
The collection weekend aims to raise £400,000 to support the 3
million people living with diabetes in the UK and help find the
further 850,000 more who remain undiagnosed with Type 2.
The weekend is being organised as part of a major national charity
partnership between Diabetes UK and Tesco. The partnership aims to
support the millions of people who have to live with diabetes every
day; help hundreds of thousands of people take action to reduce
their risk of Type 2 diabetes; and fund investment into
ground-breaking research for a Type 1 vaccine.
Volunteers can select three hour shifts, running from 9am until 6pm
on 4 October and 5 October 2013and 10am till 4pm on 6 October 2013.

Plans to develop
Queen Mary School site take a leap forward
REGENERATION Liverpool, a
joint venture between regeneration specialist Sigma Inpartnership
and Liverpool City Council, has recently signed an option agreement
with the City to facilitate the redevelopment of the derelict site
of a former City school to give it a new lease of life.
Countryside Sigma, an affiliate company of Sigma Inpartnership, will
now actively seek to secure planning permission to deliver over 190
high quality new homes on the 12 acre site of the former Queen Mary
School. It is intended that half of the new homes will be available
to purchase on the open market and the remainder will be available
for private rent.
Graeme Hogg, director at Sigma Inpartnership, said:- "The
development of the Queen Mary School site is a really exciting
opportunity for the Partnership to deliver more quality housing for
families, couples and individuals in the area. We are delighted to
be bringing forward this site and we look forward to working with
the local community on the proposals. I am confident that given the
quality of work we are producing at Norris Green Village they will
be delighted with the outcome."
Liverpool City Council's Cabinet Member for Housing, Councillor Ann
O'Byrne, said:- "This is another significant step in meeting
the Mayoral pledge on housing. We are delivering good quality homes
of the type people want throughout the City and I am very pleased
that Regeneration Liverpool is planning to bring this site back into
use."
Ian Simpson, land director at Countryside, said:- "The
development will provide a range of high quality 2, 3 and 4 bedroom
homes. We believe it will have a really positive impact on the
community and ultimately provide a new, improved neighbourhood on
the site of the former school."
Regeneration Liverpool is an active and successful public/private
partnership working with Liverpool City Council, to help deliver its
ambitious regeneration strategy for the City and to contribute
tangibly to the Mayoral targets.
Regeneration Liverpool is currently in the process of regenerating
key development sites throughout Merseyside, including Norris Green
and Stonebridge Cross Croxteth.
