Reggae legends
make Liverpool debut
3 of the most powerful and
influential men in reggae are getting ready to perform in Liverpool
for the 1st time. Damian, Stephen and Julian Marley; sons
of reggae legend Bob Marley; are set to bring the Jamaican sunshine
to Sefton Park on Sunday, 25 August 2013, as the latest big names to
become part of the inaugural Liverpool International Music Festival.
They will take to the stage as part of The Ghetto Youths
International Crew, which will see performances from the Marley
brothers along with:-
► Jo Mersa - the eldest son of Stephen who is making a name for
himself in the industry with his unique style and identity
► Black Am I - a fresh young voice on the reggae scene who is
winning fans worldwide
► Christopher Ellis – who sees his fledgling singing career as
extending the legacy of his father, who was legendary Jamaican
vocalist Alton Ellis
► Wayne Marshall – a singer, songwriter and producer who is best
known as a dancehall performer, but whose outstanding talent means
he can embrace all forms of music with explosive results
The Ghetto Youths International Crew will be special guests of BBC
Radio 1Xtra's Robbo Ranx who will be showing off his award winning
DJing skills.
Robbo said:- "I'm proud to be part of the first Liverpool
International Music Festival and we are coming to showcase dancehall
and reggae like never before. As well as myself we have an
incredible line up of music which represents Jamaica and we want
everyone to come out and party with us."
All the acts will perform on the World Music Stage which, from 12 to
8pm, will also star international artists such as Machel Montano,
Navin Kundra and Portico Quartet.
LIMF music curator, Yaw Owusu, said:- "When I first started
programming this festival back in February, a performance from a
Marley brother was on my wish list for the World Music Stage. So to
say I'm over the moon about getting not one, but 3 of the leading
reggae stars would be an understatement!
It's a real coup, particularly as they have never before played in
the City, and to entice them here as part of the new festival just
goes to show that artists are keen to be involved in this inaugural
musical extravaganza.
What I love about this festival is its diversity; from pop to
dance, Merseybeat to rock; we really are catering for an eclectic
mix of musical tastes. With less than two weeks to go until it
all kicks off, the excitement is definitely building and I think we
can guarantee this August bank holiday is going to be one music
lovers will never forget." |

MAKE YOUR DREAM
COME TRUE
CHARITIES across the
country encouraged to compete for dream project funding.
People's Postcode Trust have announced the launch of its biggest
project yet; Dream Fund 2014.
The Dream Fund encourages registered charities, community groups,
social enterprises and voluntary organisations across Scotland,
England and Wales to join forces to apply for up to £250,000 funding
to deliver their 'dream' project.
Over two years, a £500,000 funding pot will be available for
projects ready to go live in 2014 and 2015. This year's funding
round opens today and closes on 20 September 2013.
Made possible by the on-going support from players of People's
Postcode Lottery, the Dream Fund is now in its fourth year and has
so far invested over £1 million in innovative schemes in Scotland
and the North West of England. This is the first year the fund has
been open to applicants across Great Britain, with the level of
support rising from £100,000 to £250,000.
Kate Pearson, acting Head of Charities for People's Postcode
Lottery, said:- "The launch of this year's Dream Fund is
exciting - it's our biggest yet. Our themes for applicants are
encouraging healthy living, social enterprise and environmental
sustainability. We're encouraging applicants to think big and
be as creative as possible. There are many challenges being faced by
the charitable and voluntary sector. That's why we're inviting
organisations to work together to apply for a larger pot of funding.
We believe £250,000 will really help get innovative projects off the
ground and brought to life. Since the Dream Fund started it has
grown in popularity each year with fantastic quality projects
looking for funding. We're always looking for something a bit
different."
The Dream Fund is calling on all charities and organisations to
apply for funding and to join the list of projects that have already
received support. In 2013, Wild things! And the Whale and Dolphin
Conservation Society were awarded £74,069 and worked together to
develop the Moray Firth Coastal Classroom project. The project
delivered naturalist knowledge and training relating to marine
mammals, biodiversity surveying and volunteering.
Jennie Martin, founder of Wild Things! said:- "Dream Fund has
made a huge difference and enabled us to increase our operations
exponentially, so that we could make our programmes far more
accessible to a wider audience of young people and increase the
benefits of getting them active outdoors. Not only does the Coastal
Classroom enable young people to enjoy the health benefits of being
outside but also to learn to care for the natural world on their
doorstep and see how unique and special an environment they live in.
Most of all though, the courses are great fun and a terrific way to
get young people active in a way which helps toward developing a
healthy lifestyle that is essential at a time when mental and
physical health in young people is challenged by a more sedentary
lifestyle. A big thanks to players of People's Postcode Lottery;
this money is changing lives."

announced at People's Postcode Lottery's Charity Gala on 29 January
2014. |
