DONATION HELPS
LOCAL WOMEN REACH NEW HEIGHTS IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY
WOMEN from the Merseyside area now have an
increased opportunity to reach new heights in the construction
industry, thanks to the donation of a mobile access tower by one of
the UK's leading scaffolding and access services providers.
Harsco Infrastructure responded to a request for help from the
City's Blackburne House; a pioneering social enterprise centre
which, among many other things, provides training and guidance for
women who want to embark on a career in construction.
"We have spent many years building up the Construction Training
Academy at Blackburne House, and the help we receive from companies
such as Harsco Infrastructure is essential in us continuing that
work. The scaffolding tower is a great new resource for us, as it
will allow our students to get 1st hand experience of erecting,
working from and dismantling the type of equipment they are liable
to meet out in the real world. We offer many different types of
course, such as the Level 1 and Level 2 Construction Diplomas, but
the main focus is always on employability. I have been a joiner for
20 years and I know how hard it can be for women to work in
construction, and so my mission is to get as many women trained and
entering into the industry as I can." says Construction
Training Manager Wendy Heller.
Speaking after this year's student graduation ceremony, Jeremy
Jowett, Harsco's Business Development Director for the UK and
Ireland said,"Blackburne House does an excellent job of supporting
local women with the necessary training and advice in order for them
to begin their career in the construction sector, and so we are
delighted to be able to help them with our donation. Furthermore, it
is a pleasure to be doing this in conjunction with one of our key
customers and one of the UK's leading construction companies, the
Morgan Sindall Group, who have been instrumental in bringing
together the support for the academy from within their supply chain
and the industry".
Harsco Infrastructure provides a range of engineered scaffolding,
access and concrete formwork systems to construction projects both
in the UK and around the world.
The company also provides a wide range of
industrial maintenance and support services to major industrial
plants and facilities. |
