ITV drama to be
filmed in Liverpool
ONE of ITV's most popular
period dramas is set to be filmed in Liverpool, bringing in millions
of pounds to the local economy.
The 9th series of the acclaimed programme Foyle's War will be shot
in its entirety in various locations across the City, as Liverpool
doubles for London on the small screen.
Liverpool's Film Office team fought off stiff competition from other
areas of the UK to secure the programme after it was announced that
the filming would no longer take place in Southern Ireland.
The production team is already in the City, with a view to start
filming in January, with the shoot lasting around four months.
Transmission is anticipated to be in 2015.
The entire cast, including stars Michael Kitchen and Honeysuckle
Weeks, will be based in the City along with crew members.
There will also plans in place to create opportunities for local
trainees to be part of the crew and gain invaluable industry
experience.
Liverpool City Council's Assistant Mayor and cabinet member for
culture and tourism, Councillor Wendy Simon, said:- "It is a
huge coup for the City to play host to this extremely popular World
War 2 drama. Thanks to the hard work of our Film Office, Liverpool
wowed the Foyle's War team with the breadth of diverse locations
needed to make the series look realistic.n Earlier this year, the
BBC's flagship autumn drama Peaky Blinders was also filmed in the
City, so not only are we living up to our reputation as one of the
most filmed cities outside of London, we're also consistently
attracting high-quality productions. It's also fantastic news that
there will be the chance for local people to work on the production,
and get real experience of a competitive industry."
ITV's Head of Drama Series, Jane Hudson, said:- "We are
delighted to see the return of Foyle's War to ITV. Anthony Horowitz
has written 3 outstanding episodes and the audience are in for a
real treat. This series also gives us the chance to take the shoot
to one of the jewels of the North West, Liverpool."
Foyle's War is a British detective series set during and shortly
after World War 2. Created by screenwriter and author Anthony
Horowitz it has been broadcast on ITV since 2002.
In his role as a Senior Intelligence Officer for the secret service,
MI5, Foyle continues to be immersed in the dangerous world of
espionage at a time in our country's history when political and
foreign governmental relationships were delicately balanced.
Honeysuckle Weeks also returns to her role as Samantha Stewart,
Foyle's trusted associate and ally who successfully navigates the
shadowy world of intelligence and dedicatedly assists her former
boss as he seeks to uncover the truth of the cases he investigates.
In 2011/2012, 894 filming days took place in the City, bringing in
£19 million to the local economy. In total, 227 films, programme's
and adverts were filmed in Liverpool.

Tesco supports
Mayor's Hope for Foodbanks initiative
TESCO are helping to
collect donations for The Mayor's Hope Fund, a new charity for
poverty relief set up by the Mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson.
The donate at till scheme is being launched on Monday, 25 November
2013 and will give shoppers at each of Tesco's 28 outlets in the
City the opportunity to add at least £1 to their shopping bill, by
scanning a special donation barcode which will be available in
store.
All money raised will go to The Mayor's Hope Fund, a charity set up
to aid the relief of poverty in Liverpool and support foodbanks. The
Mayor has pledged to kickstart the scheme with a £25,000 donation
from the City.
Mayor Joe Anderson said:- "The idea for the Hope Fund
originates from a special summit held earlier this year at Liverpool
Cathedral on Hope Street, in which we were looking at how we could
support foodbanks. These are tough times for people due to the
austerity measures, and as a result demand for our foodbanks is
rising month on month. I am delighted that Tesco have agreed to come
on board and support the Hope Fund. It will provide a huge boost,
enabling foodbanks to invest in their infrastructure to meet the
increasing need for their services. Liverpool people are an
inspiration and known for their generosity and I know they'll come
together in the run up to the festive season to make this scheme a
success. People making a donation of their choice when they are
doing their shopping will make a big difference to those in our
community who are most in need."
There are 3 main centres in Liverpool; in the North, South and
Centre of the City. They fed almost 7,000 people from April to
August 2013; that is an 88% rise on the same period the previous
year.
The Mayor's Hope Fund will
identify specific projects to implement, enhance and grow the level
of service that that each foodbank can provide. The money will be
used to create storage space and distribution centres, recruit and
train volunteer and collect and deliver food.
Michael Kissman, Community Director at Tesco, said:- "Food
poverty is a real tragedy and we want to do everything we can to
help families in need of support. We hold regular food collections
for food banks at our stores in Liverpool and the generous response
by local customers has been amazing. We're pleased to be building on
this by supporting the Mayor's Hope Fund initiative so we can make
an even bigger difference to some of Liverpool's most vulnerable
people."
People can also text donations to the Hope Fund of:- £1, £2, £3, £4,
