First single
'Carry Me' available to download now
NORTH London's most
prolific and underrated band, Bombay Bicycle Club, have announced an
additional show in their 2014 UK Headline Tour that takes them to
Liverpool's O2 Academy on the 15 March 2014. This stands to be the
band's first major UK headline tour in 2 years and the news comes
following an announcement revealing details of their fourth album
due out on February 3rd 2014 through Island Records. Joining them on
their tour is young British singer/songwriter Rae Morris, who's
'From Above' EP was released to critical acclaim and
available to purchase now.
The band are well known for their massive live following and
critically acclaimed performances which have seen them play major
slots at some of the biggest festivals across the world as well as
some huge venues including Alexandra Palace last year which sold out
(10,000 capaCity) well in advance of the show.
The new album looks to break exciting new ground yet again for a
band that are effortlessly diversifying and innovating at an
astonishing rate. Frontman Jack Steadman wrote the record while
travelling through India, Turkey and Tokyo as well as the UK and the
Netherlands; you can really hear the influence of all the different
cultures and their native genres among the beautifully crafted songs
on this hugely ambitious record.
The album was produced by Jack in the band's studio in London,
making it their most personal record to date. There was always
purpose from the beginning to bring everything together for this
album, to tell a story from the first track through to the finale
with everything interconnecting as a complete body of work. They
called in Mark Rankin (in top form having recently mixed QOTSA
'...Like Clockwork' and AlunaGeorge 'Body Music') to help
record and mix the album. The album also features familiar vocal
contribution from Lucy Rose as well as impressive newcomer Rae
Morris.
The first single from the new album, 'Carry Me', is
available to download now and is a monumental fists in the air dance
anthem that is probably the band's most daring, explosive and
exciting departure yet from their previous work. The band
collaborated with award winning creative company Powster to deliver
a world first interactive music video premiere on
carryme.tv. Viewers are able to
control the band's actions throughout, essentially making them the
director while the band perform in time to the music.
A snapshot of Bombay Bicycle Club's history throws up even more
unexpected revelations of a band who have quietly become one of the
most successful young British bands of their generation. They
released their first album 'I Had The Blues But I Shook Them
Loose' in 2008 and shortly afterwards won the NME New Band
Award beating The XX and Mumford and Sons. They followed this up
midway through 2010 with Flaws', which was nominated for an Ivor
Novello. Their most recent album, 'A Different Kind Of Fix',
was released in August 2011 and like its predecessors, went gold
seeing the band's fan base increase exponentially, culminating in
various major main stage festival slots including the Reading and
Leeds Festival.

People in North
West encouraged to make walking their New Year's resolution
HAVING indulged over the
festive season, come January lots of people will be making New
Year's resolutions to improve their health and fitness. The Ramblers
is encouraging people in the North West to make a commitment that
they can keep and also enjoy - to get walking in 2014.
Many people sign up to expensive gym memberships at this time of
year in an attempt to get active, but why not try walking as a
cheaper, more enjoyable way to get fit? Being outside with friends
and exploring the North West can turn the chore of exercise into a
fun day out.
The Ramblers is giving people a helping hand to start walking in the
North West by running group walks in the area, as well as providing
plenty of routes that people can download and walk independently.
Simon Barnett, director of walking development at the Ramblers,
said:- "Most of us will have over indulged during the festive
period and many of us will make resolutions to get more active in
the new year, but our good intentions often fall by the wayside.
Stepping out for a walk is a cheap and fun way to achieve the
recommended 150 minutes of physical activity a week. You can enjoy
all the beautiful scenery Britain has to offer and by chatting
whilst you walk, you soon forget that you're doing exercise. Walking
is especially great if you're new to exercise, as it's gentle and
can be built up slowly. So forget about the expensive gym
memberships and make a resolution you can stick to in 2014 - get
walking."
The Ramblers top tips for starting walking are as follows:-
► Join a group walk in the North
West. If you're unsure about heading out on your own joining a group
is a great way to get started. The Ramblers has hundreds of walks
taking place across the country each week which you can try out. Or
join a short health walk from Walking for Health; run by Ramblers
and Macmillan Cancer Support; these walks are ideal for those new to
walking.
► If you'd prefer to head out on
your own time with friends and family, then the Ramblers has
hundreds of free routes on our Ramblers Routes that you can download
and hundreds more available if you become a member.
► As your fitness improves,
challenge yourself to longer walks.
► Stay motivated by setting yourself
achievable goals.
► Try and incorporate walking into
your day to day life. That way walking becomes a natural activity
you do all the time.
