New women's 10K
to extend to Liverpool in 2014
AN exciting new women's
only running event will take place in Liverpool for the 1st time.
Liverpool is just 1 of 10 carefully selected locations across the UK
where the Women's Running 10k will be held this year and will see the Liverpool leg of the race series, now in its
2nd
year, start and finish at Sefton Park on, Saturday, 26 July
2014.
The Women's Running 10k Race Series has been organised by top UK
magazine, Women's Running. The magazine inspires, motivates and
encourages women to improve their running. The 1st year of the
series saw events in Bristol, Nottingham and London, with almost
2,000 women taking part.
Christina Macdonald, Editor of Women's Running said:- "We
received so much positive feedback from the first three events this
year that we decided to extend the series, extending to new areas of
the UK in 2014. Our aim is to inspire and motivate women of all ages
and abilities to run, and these events provide the framework to make
that happen. All women taking part will be encouraged to achieve
their own personal goals, from simply getting around a 10k course,
to achieving a personal best, and we will be there to help them
every step of the way."
To help runners around the 10 kilometre course, Women's Running
pacers will be on hand to run with participants, to help them
achieve their target time. Suitable for runners of all abilities,
there will be a team of four pacers, targeting times of 50 minutes,
55 minutes, 60 minutes and a run/walk group aiming for approximately
70 minutes.
The race experience also includes a warm up, led by an expert from
Women's Running Magazine, a technical t-shirt, a high quality
drawstring goody bag and medal for every finisher, a post-race warm
down with tea and cake and a personalised text message containing
your race finish time and personal statistics from the day.
Christina added:- "We want to provide the support for as many
women as possible to start running, or help them to take their
running to the next level and so offering pre-race training plans,
combined with access to experienced runners in the form of pacers on
race day is extremely important to us."
The 235 acre parkland jewel that is Sefton Park offers a wonderful
traffic free 'road' course, easily accessible for all runners in the
North West. A very gently undulating 2 lap course route will be
creatively packaged within the park and will make for excellent
viewing for friends and family alike.
In addition to the Liverpool Women's Running 10k race, the 2014
series will see two events in London, and one event in Birmingham,
Cardiff, Southampton, Milton Keynes, Nottingham, Bristol and
Glasgow.
Popular model turned runner, Nell McAndrew will be the ambassador
for the race series again in 2014.
The event is now open for entries, with an early bird price of £24. For more information, top training tips and to enter, go to:-

Has privatised
rail system has failed?
THE Green Party has called
on the railways to be brought back into public hands as rail fare
rises for 2014 come into effect. The rise in rail fares sees
season ticket holders paying an average of 3.1% more. The increase
means fares are rising 3 times faster than wages for many commuters.
Natalie Bennett, Green Party for England and Wales, said:-
"That a Which? survey released indicates that trust in the rail
industry is even lower than the financial sector shows that the
public understands that our privatised system has failed. Now it's
past time for the government to acknowledge the huge costs of
privatisation; the Rebuilding Rail report put them conservatively at
£1.2bn a year; a sum that could provide an 18% fare cut for all. We
should bring the railways back into public hands, ending two decades
of 'great train robbery' by the train operating companies. That's
what Green MP Caroline Lucas's private members' bill calls for.
Train travellers facing more fare rises might like to ask their
local MP if they're backing it."
Green peer Jenny Jones will be joining the End the Rail Rip-off
protest organised by Action for Rail at King's Cross station
tomorrow morning to show her support for the campaign.

APPEAL FOR
WITNESSES AFTER SHOTS FIRED AT EDEN VALE PUBLIC HOUSE
MERSEYSIDE Police are
investigating following a shooting in Netherton on the night of
Sunday, 29 December 2013. Police Officers were called to the Eden
Vale public house in Glovers Lane at 10.10pm following reports that
a firearm had been discharged through a window into the pub. No-one
was injured, but there were a number of customers inside the pub at
the time and they, along with staff, were shocked by what happened.
The lone offender is believed to have fled on foot along Eden Vale.
He is described as short and stocky and was wearing a blue hooded
top. The pub and area around it has been cordoned off and Crime
Scene Investigators have carried out forensic examinations at the
scene and the damage caused is consistent with a shotgun discharge.
House to house and CCTV enquiries are being carried out and there is
a highly visible police presence in the area to provide reassurance
to the local community. Superintendent Kevin Johnson, said:-
"To fire a weapon into a pub, where there are likely to be
customers, is reckless in the extreme and it is only through sheer
good fortune that no-one has been injured. We are working hard to
establish who the offender is and why he would do this. We will be
speaking to as many witnesses as we can to see if they saw or heard
anything that could help our investigation. I would like to reassure
local people that we will do everything we can to bring the offender
to justice. The use of firearms on the streets of Merseyside will
not be tolerated and we will relentlessly pursue the criminals who
use them." Anyone with information which could help the
police with their inquiries can contact the specialist Matrix team
