released after man bitten by 'out of control' dog at Kirkdale
station
THE British Transport
Police have issued a CCTV image of a man officers would like to
speak to after a rail passenger was bitten by a dog at Kirkdale rail
station. The incident happened at about 6.40pm on Saturday, 4
January 2014, on the Ormskirk-bound platform at the station. PC
Victoria Hodson said:- “The victim, a 45 year old man from
Maghull, heard a dog barking and saw a man struggling to control a
dog as the pair came down the stairs towards the platform. As the
dog passed the victim, it suddenly snapped and bit his hand, causing
deep puncture wounds which required hospital treatment. Following
the incident, the dog continued to drag its owner along the
platform, before the two quickly left the station.”
Since the incident officers have carried out a number of enquiries
in the area and have managed to isolate the CCTV image which, they
believe, may be key to the investigation. PC Hodson said:- “I
am confident the man in the CCTV images has information about the
incident and I urge anyone who recognises him to come forward. The
dog seemed to be out of control and it is vital we trace the owner
to discuss the incident.”

CRACKDOWN ON FOOTBALL RELATED VIOLENCE
PEOPLE that are believed to
have caused problems following a recent Liverpool FC home game on
Merseyside felt the long arm of the law on Thursday, 23
January 2014.
At about 7am officers executed 10 warrants across Merseyside in
Wallasey, Bootle, Old Swan, Kirkby, Huyton and Maghull to arrest a
number of males believed to have been involved in disorder at a bar
in Liverpool City Centre following a Liverpool home game on
Saturday, 7 December 2013. The disorder happened in a bar in the
City Centre just a few hours after the final whistle of the game. In
addition officers also arrested a man on suspicion of assault in
relation to the stabbing of an Oldham fan in Liverpool on Sunday, 5
January 2014.
A total of 12 people where arrested:- 9 males, 3
aged 17, 2 aged 18, 2 aged 19, a 22 year old and a 25 year old, have
been arrested on arrested on suspicion of violent disorder; a
24 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder
and section 18 wounding; a woman (no age at this time) has been
arrested on suspicion of possession of class A drug with intent to
supply and a man (no age at this time) has been suspicion of
possession of a prohibited item.
Area Commander for Liverpool North, Chief Superintendent Jon Ward,
said:- "This operation sends out a powerful message to a
small minority of so called football fans intent on becoming
involved in violence and disorder that this type of behaviour in
unacceptable and will not be tolerated. However, this operation is just the start of our proactive work
to target these individuals. Over the forthcoming weeks we have a
number of operations planned to target those intent on causing
trouble around football fixtures in the area.
You might think you are anonymous in the crowd or in a busy bar and
no one can see your anti-social behaviour and actions but think
about it next time because ten people in custody right now had the
same thought. In the next few weeks more people can expect to have
early morning wake up calls courtesy of my officers.
For an offence to be considered as being football related it has to
be within 24 hours either side of a football match. Distance is
irrelevant just as long as we can prove it was football related.
Successful convictions should result in football banning orders
which will mean they will no longer be able to attend games or
follow their national side abroad.
On Merseyside there are already 70 football banning orders in force,
which gives reassurance to those genuine fans and family groups who
want to go and watch their local football club in a trouble-free
atmosphere." |

Plans for rail
link to open up the region move a step closer
IMPROVED rail links between
the Liverpool City Region, Cheshire and North Wales; with the
possibility of direct services from Lime Street to places such as
Llandudno; are a step closer with the approval of a new study.
Merseytravel’s Integrated Authority has agreed to Merseytravel’s
Executive initially funding research for the next stage of a rail
project which will allow for the outline design and construction of
the ‘Halton Curve’. This would bring back into full use the
section of the line that links the Chester/Warrington line and the
Liverpool/Crewe line at Frodsham Junction.
Though research into the economic benefits is still underway, it is
expected that the full re-opening of the curve would improve links
to Liverpool John Lennon Airport as well as opening up more leisure
and work opportunities across the region.
This project is being developed by Merseytravel, Halton Borough
Council, the Welsh Government and a consortium of the 6 county
authorities in North Wales; one of several being taken forward to
improve connectivity.
Merseytravel will be seeking contributions to the latest complex
phase in the research which is expected to cost around £500,000.
Said Cllr Liam Robinson, Chair of Merseytravel’s Integrated
Transport Authority:- “The Halton Curve may only be one and a
half miles long but could be the key to unlocking so many more
opportunities for people in our City region, North Wales and
Cheshire.
It wouldn’t be a project in isolation but part of the overarching
vision for connectivity with the Liverpool City Region and the wider
North West linking with plans for HS2 and developments of the lines
to Manchester.”
ROBBERY ON PARK LANE, NETHERTON
MERSEYSIDE Police has
issued CCTV images of 2 men following an armed robbery in Netherton
on Wednesday, 22 January 2014. At about 2.20pm officers were called
to the Sayers shop on Park Lane following a report that two men
entered the shop and threatened staff. The 2 men, believed to have
been in possession of a firearm, made off on foot with a quantity of
money. No one was injured during the incident but staff were left
shaken. Police attended and detectives have sought CCTV and spoken
with witnesses. Officers would like to speak to the 2 men pictured,
as they believe they might have important information for the
investigation. The 1st offender is described as white, about 20
years of age and is of a large build. He was wearing a black jacket,
black hooded top and black tracksuit bottoms. The 2nd offender is
described as white, about 20 years of age and was wearing a green
jacket. Detective Inspector Mark Smith, said:- "The staff have
gone through a frightening experience and thankfully they were not
hurt. We take incidents of this nature extremely seriously and are
committed to finding the two men responsible for this incident. I
