YOUR CHANCE TO
BE NORTH WEST'S BAKING CHAMPION
KEEN bakers are being
encouraged to enter a charity 'bake-off' competition
in Liverpool. The O-Very Cake Bake will take place on Thursday, 13
March, 2014, at Leaf, Bold Street, as part of North West Cancer
Research's (NWCR) O-Very, Ovarian Cancer Awareness Campaign.
Ovarian Cancer affects nearly 7,000 and kills almost 4,400 women
every year. Dubbed the 'silent killer', ovarian cancer
presents itself with symptoms very often confused with other
abdominal issues such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
O-Very is returning for a 3rd time to help raise awareness of this
'aggressive disease'. The competition includes eight
categories:- Victoria Sponge, Loaf Cake, Cupcakes, Tart, Vegan Tray
Bake, Gluten-Free Cupcakes, Occasion Cake and Traybakes.
Judges include BBC3's Cherry Healey who has backed the campaign for
2 consecutive years.
Anne Jackson, Chief Executive of NWCR said:- "Last year's Cake
Bake was a huge success with people from around the region entering
the competition. We hope that people from across the area will get
involved with the Cake Bake this year and help support the O-Very
campaign. Ovarian Cancer is an aggressive disease that is difficult
to detect before it has spread to other parts of the body. On
average, less than a third of patients survive more than five years
after diagnosis. Although figures are improving in England and
deaths from ovarian cancer have fallen by a fifth in a decade there
is still work to be done. Detecting the illness at an early stage is
crucial and we hope to raise awareness of the symptoms and enable
women to know the warning signs."
The symptoms of ovarian cancer include abdominal pain, fatigue,
swelling and a loss of appetite.
The O-Very Cake Bake will take
place on Thursday, 13 March 2014, at Leaf, 65 to 67 Bold Street,
Liverpool, L1 4EZ.
Entrants can enter cakes from 11am to 2pm and the winners will be
announced between 5pm to 6pm. There is a £5 entry fee per cake. All
proceeds will go to NWCR.
Entrants can also pre-register
through:-
nwcr.org or calling head office
on:- 0151 709 2919.

Merseyrail
expand digital signage network to the retail side of the business
MERSEYRAILS' chain of
convenience stores, MtoGo, is now using Dynamax Technologies
digitalsignage.NET software to run digital displays for ticket
promotions, shop offers and general information in order to enhance
passenger journey experience. The main aim of the digital signage
network is to increase brand awareness through displaying the
promotions and offers to customers. Merseyrail already
has the cloud-based software in use for internal communications,
displaying the dashboard and KPI targets. The company will now be
expanding the digital signage screens to around 7 other sites across
the greater Liverpool area.
Thomas Philip, Business Analyst at
Merseyrail, commented on digitalsignage.NET:- "This is a
simple solution that can be easily deployed. It can be accessed from
anywhere if you have an internet connection. The scheduler
functionality is very good and the product is cost effective."
Making passengers aware of the MtoGo is important as it is a
significant component of the end of journey experience for rail
users. The digital screens provide a more noticeable source for shop
offers and information compared to thestatic signage in place
before. The Samsung commercial screens are 32" landscape back
to back, one faces the underground and one faces the shop.
