SOUTHPORT
FASHION SHOW IS THIS WEEKEND!
ITS Southport Fashion show this Sunday, at the
Southport Theatre and Convention Centre
Ralph Lauren once said:-
"Fashion is not necessarily about labels. It's not about brands.
It's about something else that comes from within you."
While that's undoubtedly true; confirmed by George Michael in 'Freedom
'90' ("Sometimes the clothes do not make the man"); it's the
labels and brands that certainly make for great shows, as we'll
discover this weekend when Southport Fashion Show takes place.
It's organised by Lisa Hames and
Jeff Wilkinson of rising GModels and Casting Agency, with the
Community Link Foundation proudly chosen as its official charity
(who will have a stand and will be running a raffle).
Taking place at the Southport Theatre and Convention Centre on...
Sunday, 23 March 2014, from 12 noon until 6 pm, the event will be a
buzz of professional models, hair stylists, makeup artists, creative
teams and established and up-and-coming designers, all doing their
best to bring you the latest and greatest of this year's
Spring/Summer collections.
There will be 7 catwalks throughout the day showcasing the elite of
local and international brands, with Milan-style seating.
Amidst all this excitement, which will be hosted by Baz Todd & Gemma
(Juice FM), the proverbial cherry on this glamour cake will be the
sheer volume of extra entertainment.
Dance troupe Streetbeatz; which includes this year's Britain's Got
Talent contestant Chickpunkz; will be performing, as well as
Alexandra Burke support-act Scott Chapman, who will be presenting
his Michael Buble tribute act.
On top of this, circus-style
entertainment will be provided by multi-talented performer Sophie
Morris and one of the region's finest magicians, David Burgess. And
if that wasn't enough (you'll be delighted to know this is actually
2 cherry cake) there are free treatments by Toni & Guy, Nails
Inc @ Harvey Nichols, & Clinique @ Beales to name just a few!
Tickets are priced at only £7 per person (with £1 from every ticket
going to CLF) and can be purchased
online or on the day of the event -
contact via
email for more
info.
Fashion, music, drinks, freebies, no excuses.

Liverpool
Support Group for Glaucoma Patients
MISS A Choudhary and Mr V
Dubois are inviting patients who have glaucoma to attend the initial
support group meeting at:- 2.30pm, on Wednesday, 26 March 2014. It will be
held at the:- Conference Hall, Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, St. James
Mount, Liverpool L1 7AZ.
It will be an opportunity for patients to share experiences and
raise questions about their condition and/or treatment. Healthcare
professionals will be on hand to answer queries.
There will also be a presentation by the Consultant
Ophthalmologists, the Glaucoma Nurses and also by the International
Glaucoma Association on Glaucoma and your Driving Licence.
Miss Choudhary, Consultant Ophthalmologist at the St. Pauls Eye Unit
at the Royal Liverpool Hospital said:- "The support group is
open to all glaucoma patients at all stages of the condition, as
well as partners and carers. Refreshments will be available."
Glaucoma affects approximately 1 in 50 people over the age of 40 and
it's a leading cause of preventable blindness in the UK. It
initially causes loss of peripheral vision, and people affected are
therefore often unaware of it before suffering irreparable damage.
According to Russell Young, Chief Executive of the International
Glaucoma Association (IGA), the charity for people with glaucoma,
"Everyone over the age of 40 should have a regular routine eye test
at least once every 2 years to be sure that there is nothing wrong
or, if there is a problem, to have it detected at a stage when
treatment is most effective. For those who are diagnosed with
glaucoma, support groups can be invaluable because a good
understanding of the condition and good compliance with the
prescribed treatments lead to much better long term outcomes."
The IGA's mission is to raise awareness of glaucoma, promote
research related to early diagnosis and treatment, and to provide
support to glaucoma patients, their carers and relatives. It offers
free information and advice through its Sightline service (01233 64
81 70) and its website (www.glaucoma-association.com).
For more information about the support group, please contact Miss
Lindy Gee on 0151 706 3873 or

Housing plans
for former school site
LIVERPOOL City Council is
set to dispose of a former school site in Toxteth, paving the way to
the delivery of almost 40 affordable homes for local people.
The City's Cabinet will be asked, on Friday, 21 March 2014, to approve
plans for the sale of land, which previously housed Our Lady of
Mount Carmel School, to social housing provider Plus Dane Group.
The transfer of the land; along with an adjacent site bounded by
Amity Street, North Hill Street and Letitia Street – will enable
Plus Dane to start work on delivering 38 affordable new properties.
Plus Dane has received planning permission to deliver a mix of
affordable 2, 3 and 4 bedroom houses on the site. 22 of those will
be for rent, with the remaining 16 for sale.
If the land transfer is approved by the Cabinet, Plus Dane will
start on-site in April, with the scheme to be completed in March
2015.
Liverpool City Council's Cabinet Member for Housing, Councillor Ann
O'Byrne, said:- "We continue to work hard to improve housing
across the city, and this scheme would make an important
contribution to delivering the affordable housing that local people
so badly need. It's yet another example of how we are
working with our partners, and making best use of our assets. It's
helping bring in new investment and deliver housing that meets the
needs of residents and breathes new life into our neighbourhoods."
The former Our Lady of Mount Carmel School occupied the site, on
North Hill Street, until August 2010 when it was closed due to its
amalgamation with St Malachy's School and became Holy Family
Catholic Primary School. The building suffered serious fire damage
in July 2011, which led to its demolition and clearance of the site
in February 2013.
Following delays in the delivery of the Welsh Streets scheme after
the planning application was called in for a public inquiry by the
Secretary of State, the Mount Carmel development will provide much
need affordable homes in this part of Liverpool. The scheme will
also contain a proportion of shared ownership properties, which will
be aimed at first time buyers, looking to secure high quality,
energy efficient homes in the area. |
