Liverpool City Region Talent Match is celebrating!
AS UK unemployment levels
reportedly plummet to their lowest in more than 5 year; a new and
exciting initiative is already reporting its first great successes.
Liverpool City Region Talent Match is a programme funded by the Big
Lottery. Launched 6 months ago, it is aimed at those young people
who have been out of employment for more than 12 months and are
looking for long term employment.
Whilst the UK unemployment figures are said to be falling, Talent
Match is aiming to further reduce unemployment figures significantly
over the next 5 years, attracting engagement from those young people
who are not claiming benefits and who are not counted in the recent
fall of unemployment figures in the UK.
Liverpool City Region was the first Talent Match initiative to
secure employment for a young person and is currently supporting 150
18 to 24 year olds throughout the City Region, of whom 10 young
people have secured full time employment over the last few months.
Talent Match is driven by young people for young people with the
help of organisations from around the City Region. Every young
person who takes part in Liverpool City Region Talent Match is
assigned an intensive mentor to develop a personalised pathway of
support specific to their skills and goals.
The mentors provide their expertise, advice and guidance to help
those struggling with the job market to develop real skills for real
jobs and identify career opportunities to meet the demands of
employers.
Gill Bainbridge, chief executive at MYA, said:- "We launched
the programme 6 months ago and have hit the ground running, with
some great early successes. Whilst recent unemployment figures are
encouraging, they do not tell the whole story. There are regional
differences and increases in part time and 0 hour contracts. We want
to equip young people with the skills not only to get a job, but to
build a career. We are working with many young people "hidden" from
the statistics who are very vulnerable, with complex needs. Our
approach offers personalised support across all areas of their lives
to ensure that they are truly ready for employment. We are proud
that of the 21 Talent Match programmes nationally, Liverpool City
Region was the 1st to get a young person on programme and the 1st to
move a young person into a job. With the help of the individual,
personalised approach our mentors take, we are confident that we can
continue to provide the motivation, skills and guidance young people
need to succeed in finding their dream job."

Calling
Southport climbers to 'step up' and make a difference for
children in The NSPCC Gherkin Challenge
FANCY running up a
skyscraper for a good cause? This September, the NSPCC is urging
people from Southport to take on The NSPCC Gherkin Challenge, racing
up the 38 floors to the top of the London landmark and raising money
in support of the charity's vital work with some of the UK's most
vulnerable children.
Taking place on Sunday, 7 September 2014, this exciting fitness
challenge will be an unforgettable experience. Alongside hundreds of
fellow participants or 'Gherkineers', you'll tackle
the 38 floors of the building which stands 3 times higher than
Niagara Falls. This iconic building is not usually open to the
public, and so The NSPCC Gherkin Challenge provides an exclusive
opportunity to enjoy stunning panoramic views and a glass of bubbly
when you reach the top. Push yourself to your limits or take it at a
more leisurely pace; the choice is yours.
It takes an average of 11 minutes to reach the top during which time
an average of 33 children will contact the charity's ChildLine
service. By tackling The NSPCC Gherkin Challenge, you can help
ensure that ChildLine can continue to be there for children and
young people in times of need, whilst experiencing an adrenaline
rush like no other.
Speaking about the event NSPCC Head of Participation Events, Gavin
Spencer, said:- "Tower running is becoming increasingly
popular as an alternative form of exercise, and The NSPCC Gherkin
Challenge is the perfect opportunity for people to give it a go
whilst supporting a good cause. Challenge yourself as you race to
the top on your own or as part of a team, or take it at your own
pace and enjoy a more leisurely climb to the top. However you choose
to do it, every step will make a difference for vulnerable children
across the UK."
The entry fee for The NSPCC Gherkin Challenge is just £20 per person
or £70 for a team of 4 with a sponsorship target of £200 per person
which could help answer 50 calls to ChildLine. Alternatively, if you
don't fancy taking the stairs there is the option to purchase a
'Champagne Lift Pass' for £60 or £100 for 2.
By taking part in this unique event, you can help the NSPCC to
protect vulnerable children and prevent abuse through its projects
and services including ChildLine; which is the UK's free,
confidential 24 hour helpline and online service for children and
young people.
