WE ARE THE CITY
A truly unique dance event takes
over the City streets on Sunday 13 July as MDI present We are the
City. Topping off this summer's fantastic dance events with MDI,
this Big Dance event looks to celebrate the local community,
engaging with local groups, crafts, associations and societies
creating a stunning moving installation in a tapestry of Liverpool
life which has been created by renowned Austrian artist Willi Dorner.
A part of Big Dance 2014, this is the latest Moving Dance Forward
project; which seeks imaginative projects to create a new vision
for dance in the North West. This parade style event starts on
Anfield Road at 1:30pm and runs to 3:00pm. Participants will make their way along
the length of Anfield Road and culminates in a final celebration in
Stanley Park.
Organisers are excited to have commissioned a brand new piece of
music for the event. Working with composer Tom Rea Smith the piece
is to be performed by Liverpool Brass Band, creating a fantastic
soundscape to accompany the choreographed procession which will
include bee keepers, knitters, Ballroom Dancers, bikers, Anfield
boxers, Liverpool Homeless football team, street cleaners and the
fire brigade.
Karen Gallagher, Artistic Director of MDI said:- "This is a
very different project for MDI and we are very excited to see and
hear how it all comes together on the day. Making visible those
people and services that we can so take for granted is a very
important aspect of this event and we hope the people of Liverpool
get behind it and let us know what they think."
This spectacular parade will make its way through Stanley Park for
an exciting climax which will be met by performances from Brouhaha
as part of their Beautiful North Festival, including local and
international performances, dancers, circus artists, musicians and
acrobats who will dazzle audiences with family focussed
performances.
There is a wonderfully varied collection of local groups signed up
to be involved and MDI are excited for everyone to see the results
of all their hard work and commitment to their community. This free
event will bring Anfield alive, instilling a sense of community
spirit for all to witness and enjoy.
