ON Sunday, 10 August
2014 the Royal British Legion's Byng House, on the Promenade, in
Southport, held a Remembrance Parade as part of the National
World War 1 Commemorations. The parade was not all that large,
but comprised Leading Civic Dignitaries’ Car, Royal British
Legion Standard Bearers, Southport Sea Cadet Band, 156 (North
West) Army Regiment, plus 2 military vehicles, followed by the
Royal British Legion Byng House Bus, as well as the Merseyside
Police. The Parade marched in a circle which took them along the
Promenade then along Lord Street, turning at the War Memorial
(Cenotaph), on to Neville Street and terminating at the start
point, Byng House. Then a short wreath laying service was held,
with local dignitaries and the Deputy Lieutenant of Merseyside,
Colonel Martin Amlôt took the salute on the Byng House's car park.
After the service many
retired to Byng House Poppy Break Centre view some WW1 items
brought over for the day from the where they are currently
forming an exhibition which continues until Friday, 29 August
2014. If you have not already been across to see that display,
it includes some fascinating memorabilia, from poem's, photos,
prints, stories, medals and The WW1 embroidered Memorial Quilt
which has been hand made by some local ladies. For more events
taking place over the next 4 years, within Sefton, go to Sefton MBC's
