Southport Weekender 2014
has come back to say:- "Good Bye" to Southport
THIS weekend the
Southport Weekender is returning for what is billed as "the very
last", to be held at the Pontins Southport Holiday Park, on the edge of
Ainsdale Village. A full report from this amazing event,
together with lots of photographs, will be
in next weeks issue. This will be a historic event, as on close,
it will loose it's direct association
with the Town, other than by name. Southport Weekender is the longest running music event of it's type
and has been voted by MTV as the friendliest event in the
world, year on year. On Friday afternoon, 17 October, we popped in to see the
crew's final preparations and had a chat with early arrivals to
find out what they are expecting from the
event. Unsurprisingly, all of them were saying:- "It will be a
very emotional event." One thing is for certain, the
event will be amazing! Please note that this is a
pre-ticketed event, so no tickets are available on the door!
Witness appeal relating to
possession of firearm on train from New Brighton
THE British Transport
Police (BTP) would like to speak to the 2 men in the above
pictures, urgently, in connection with an incident which
occurred at around 5.50pm on Saturday, 20 September 2014, on
board a train from New Brighton to Liverpool, where a teenager
was verbally abused by a man believed to be carrying a firearm
or an imitation firearm.
Anyone who recognises the men in the images is asked to get in
touch with the BTP.
Investigating officer PC Ian Williamson, in a press release,
said that:- "2 men boarded a Liverpool bound train from
New Brighton station and during the journey one of them verbally
abused a teenager and lifted up his top to show what the victim
believed to be a firearm. The men left the train at Birkenhead
Conway Park Station. Whether this weapon was real or fake it
nonetheless caused great alarm and distress to the victim. It is
rarely that we see any incidents involving firearms on the
railway, but anyone caught carrying a weapon on the railway
network will be brought to justice." Anyone with information is asked to contact BTP on:- 0800 40 50
40, or by sending a text to:- 61016, quoting reference:- "PSUB/B10
of 15/10/14". Information can also be passed anonymously
to the independent charity Crimestoppers on:- 0800 555 111.s
