Toad Hall was a blaze Photographs by Patrick
Trollope.
ON 15 November, 2014,
the building known by many as Ainsdale grot spot, Toad Hall,
went on fire. The building which is located next to Pontins
Holiday Camp was once a thriving night club, but it had been
closed for many years, falling into disrepair. In recent years
it became one of several
Sefton Council owned
properties earmarked for fast track regeneration and in 2012,
plans to turn it into flats or houses were revealed to the
public. "With broken windows and dumped rubbish in and
around it, the build was a blaze waiting to happen." a
local told us when we headed over to take photos the following
day. Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, who extinguished the
fire said:- "We attended the former club, on Shore Road,
at around 9.50pm, on Saturday, 15 November, 2014, with 4 fire
appliances and an aerial appliance. Fire-fighters were at the
scene until around 1.30am on Sunday, 16 November, 2014.
Fire-fighters had to tackle the fire from outside the property
due to the condition of the inside of the building." As
a result all the electrical supply to the unoccupied building
has been fully cut off. An investigation is now underway into
what caused the 1st floor and attic to catch alight. The site is
of historic value, but this might mean the building is now
demolished.
