Reminder - West Lancashire
Light Railway Santa Specials
THE West Lancashire Light Railway (WLLR) is a short 2' gauge line situated
at Hesketh Bank, approximately midway between Preston and Southport.
This railway will be running the annual "Santa Specials."
Santa Special steam trains will run on the following days:-
► Saturday, 13 December 2013.
► Sunday, 14 December 2013.
► Saturday, 20 December 2013.
► Sunday, 21 December 2013.
Trains depart every 30 minutes
from 10.30 am The last scheduled train leaves at 4.30 pm, although
an extra train may run in response to demand. There's no need to
book; there will be room for everyone on one of the trains.
All trains will be hauled by a steam locomotive;
2 locos will be
in steam. Trains go to Toyland where the children meet Santa and
receive a present. As darkness falls, Toyland becomes a woodland
glade lit only by fairy lights, the fire in the engine and the warm
glow of Santa's stove.
Free sweets and balloons for children. Hot drinks, soup, hot dogs
and mincepies will be served in the workshop, which will be warm and
dry whatever the weather outside.

If you do not already know about the railway, it also
makes a fantastic photographic location. The line runs around the
edge of a former clay pit which served a brickworks adjacent to the
old West Lancashire Railway, making it ideal for photo
opportunities. The collection of engines includes 4 historic steam locomotives, with others
undergoing restoration, and a remarkable collection of diesel
powered industrial locomotives.
