Prowse &
Amsterdam + Rain + Eoin Glackin played live at the Arts Club,
Liverpool
Review by Jo
Forrest.
THE Arts
Club - Liverpool was the venue
for a fantastic night of entertainment with headline act
Ian
Prowse, who was in Liverpool, with
the
Amsterdam
- Pele tour, on Saturday, 6 December 2014. If you do not
already know, Ian is one of Merseyside's amazing musical heroes, who
has formed not 1, but 2 successful bands over the years. Pele, a
Liverpool band, was formed back in 1990. It has released 3 albums on Polydor/M&G Records along with putting out 6 singles. But, oddly, it
is better known in Belgium, Germany, Portugal, Holland and most
notably a Number One in South Africa with 'Megalomania'.
But this act has had lower end UK charts success. The other is also
a pop/rock group, called Amsterdam, and, as with Pele, it is also
based in Liverpool. Amsterdam formed in 1999 with former Blow
Monkeys drummer Tony Kiley and cousin Johnny Barlow. It was a record
deal in the form of London based Beat Crazy in 2004 that was to get
this band noticed. In February 2005, the band released one album
called:- 'The Journey', that reached number 32 in the
UK top 40 and then 3 singles followed. For those on Merseyside:-
'Does This Train Stop on Merseyside' might also be recalled,
as it also hit the lower reaches of the charts. Sadly, by mutual
consent, the partnership was dissolved in 2006, but the story was to
be revised in 2008 thanks to a new album:- 'Arm in Arm',
that was released via CIA Recordings. The other 2 bands on the night
where Eoin
Glackin and another alternative
rock band from Liverpool,
Rain... These are a few
photographs taken by Jo Forrest of what was heaven for a Souse music
fan! Just to note that should you have been unlucky not to have
attended, we can announce that what will be an amazing night on St.
Patrick's Weekend is heading to Liverpool in 2015, as Amsterdam will
be playing a full set live on Saturday, 15 March 2014, at the 02
Liverpool. To get tickets go to:-
