Brunlees Court
celebrates grand opening
SOUTHPORT retirees and their relatives
enjoyed the company of former British Olympic champion, Dame Mary Peters CH DBE
at the grand opening of the luxurious McCarthy and Stone Assisted Living
development, Brunlees Court.
More than 100 people were in attendance to see Dame Mary, who won the pentathlon
gold medal at the 1972 Olympic Games, talk about her experiences as an Olympian
and unveil a special plaque to mark the official opening.
Designed to reflect the original Victorian villas that once stood on the
Cambridge Road site, Brunlees Court harks back to an earlier time and takes its
name from James Brunlees, who designed the iconic Southport Pier. The stunning
development certainly proved a hit with 1 apartment snapped up at the event
and another just a few days later.
Dame Mary said:- "It was a real pleasure to come back to my roots in
Southport to officially open Brunlees Court. I've been an ambassador for
McCarthy and Stone for many years and from touring the show apartments and
speaking to visitors, it is clear that this development is a real triumph."
Fiona Brooks, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for McCarthy
and Stone,
commented:- "It was fantastic to welcome Dame Mary Peters and so many
visitors to Brunlees Court to mark the official opening and we are delighted to
have received such positive feedback.
At McCarthy and Stone, we are proud to help people stay independent for longer and
really make the most of every minute of their retirement. That is why we are so
committed to delivering an exceptional lifestyle for our residents at Brunlees
Court with a beautiful setting, fantastic food and luxuriously appointed
accommodationl; all with the peace of mind that care, support and friendship is
close at hand. This is particularly important to relatives who want to be
certain their parent, uncle, aunt or grandparent is enjoying the very best
quality of life."

'Walrus' rolls out with full Merseyside launch of electronic Saveaway
AN electronic version of Saveaway;
Merseytravel's off peak day ticket for buses, trains and ferries;
will be available to buy on a Walrus smart card across the whole of
Merseyside from 9 March 2015. Smart Saveaways are replacing the
scratch off versions of the ticket which have been around for more
than 30 years. It follows a trial in Wirral which has seen more than
45,000 smart Saveaways sold since their launch at the end of
November 2014, already making Merseyside's smart ticketing scheme
one of the most active outside of London. The tickets, which will
initially be for on the day use only, will be available on the cards
from around 800 PayPoint outlets across Merseyside. This will more
than double the number of places people can buy Saveaways when
compared with the number of retailers who stocked the scratch off
versions.
The Walrus card is designed to be kept, re-used and, longer term, to
host other ticketing products. In Wirral, already more than ½ of
smart Saveaway sales (around 60%) are on re-used cards. For the next
few months people will be able to get a Walrus smartcard for free
when purchasing a smart Saveaway. There will be a £1 activation
charge for all new cards longer term. Saveaway is just the start of
Merseytravel's smart ticketing programme, with the next few years
seeing a roll out of new ticket products and new ways to purchase
them. Within the coming year Merseytravel is working on customers
being able to purchase smart Saveaways in advance, with plans for
another of Merseytravel's existing pre-paid ticket products to go
'smart' too. Meanwhile, Merseytravel and operators are continuing to
work on a strategy outlining what Merseyside's smart ticketing
future will look like. A high level approach is expected within the
next few months with detailed recommendations expected to be made
later this year. The focus will be on making the process more
convenient and efficient for public transport users, with
simplifying the zoning system and price structures amongst the
considerations.
Said Cllr Liam Robinson, Chair of Merseytravel:- "To have 1 of
the largest smart ticketing schemes outside of London from Wirral
sales alone shows the scale of what we've achieved in just a few
months. We now want to start the rest of Merseyside on its smart
ticketing journey with a full roll out of smart Saveaway. We have
taken lessons from the introduction in Wirral and will be working
more closely with retailers to ensure people understand the changes
to Saveaway and with operators to ensure tickets can be used
seamlessly across the network. We want people to be assured that our
ambitions are much beyond smart Saveaway. It is just the beginning.
Over the next few months we will be providing further detail on our
ambitions for 'Walrus'. Ultimately it's about offering convenience,
choice and flexibility in when and how people buy tickets for
travel."
There are additional benefits to smart ticketing. The data gathered
will help Merseytravel and the operators better understand
passengers' travelling patterns so transport services can best meet
their needs. It is also expected that smart tickets and the
associated:- 'touch on' will reduce fraud and
associated costs. As not all current Saveaway retailers will have
the facility to retail smart Saveaways, there will be a phasing out
of scratch off Saveaway tickets at these outlets. Paper Saveaways
will still be available from railway stations and ticket vending
machines.
