Fun for all the family on County Road, Walton

A family fun day is taking place in Walton, on Saturday, 7 March 2015, to conclude a week of action to improve County Road. The event is being held in the Tesco Car Park, on County Road, Walton, from 10am to 2pm with a range of activities put on for younger residents by Walton Youth Project. They include:-

► Children's entertainment.
► Face painting.
► Banner making.
► Mother's day arts and crafts.
► Magic show.
► Drumming workshop.
► Cake decorating.
► Refreshments.

There is also an opportunity for people to have their say on shopping and business improvements. The week long clean up has been spearheaded by the County High Street Innovation Group which has secured money from the Mary Portas fund to deliver improvements for the area. It has seen the City Council, businesses and residents working together to tackle litter, dumping and dumping. Councillor Roy Gladden, Chair of the County High Street Innovation Group, said:- "The week of action has been a great success and the fun day is an opportunity for families in the area to come along and enjoy a range of activities, and also find out more about our work to increase trade and prosperity along County Road."

On Monday, 9 March 2015, there will be a business conference workshop organised in conjunction with the Federation of Small Businesses at Everton Football Club, which local firms can attend. Over the last year, 24 new businesses have opened on County Road, including a patisserie and clothes, wedding and blinds shops. 2 more are in the pipeline, 4 others have expanded and another has been improved. This contrasts with the loss of just 6 businesses.

Arrest followed firearms incident in Ainsdale

MERSEYSIDE Police have charged an 18 year old man with possession with intent to supply controlled drugs and blackmail. Jack Halewood, from Crosby, appeared at Liverpool Magistrates Court on Saturday, 28 February 2015. This follows an investigation being started after a firearm had been reported to have been used at an address, on Shore Road, in Ainsdale on Sunday, 22 February 2015, at approximately 11pm. West Lancashire Classic Bus Day Returns

ON the 14 March 2015, the West Lancashire Classic Bus Day, now in its 3rd year will take place with 8 classic buses from the Merseyside Transport Trust collection operating frequent trips over 2 routes that both originate from Burscough Bridge.

Classic AEC Regents double deckers from the 1950's, along with some Leyland Atlanteans from the 60's and early 70's supplemented by a pair of single deck buses, will run over the 2 routes along some of the quieter lanes of West Lancashire.

Route 'B' links Burscough Bridge with Ormskirk whilst for the 1st time the other route will follow a circular route from Burscough Bridge via Bispham Green, Parbold and Newburgh. Both routes operate on a 1/2hour frequency between 12.00 midday and 6pm and are free to travel on.

As the routes meander through the beautiful countryside surrounding the Burscough area they pass a number of country pubs, at which the buses stop to drop off and pick up passengers who may wish to visit the establishments or for those who wish to take a walk through the countryside. Both routes cross over the Leeds Liverpool Canal numerous times giving visitors the unique opportunity to travel by classic bus before alighting to enjoy a walk along the scenic canal footpath before re-joining 1 of the buses at a stop further along the canal.

The Merseyside Transport Trust, a local registered charity has a collection of over forty classic buses, the oldest dating back to the 1940's all of which are kept in Burscough. The vehicles represent the progress of public road transport over the last 70 years and whilst the collection is not normally open to the public the voluntary group makes the vehicles available for people to see and travel aboard at numerous events throughout the year.
