Make note to go to the Birkdale Traders Association St George's Day Fair

THE Southport Cruisers held their 30 Annual Easter Run on 29 March 2015. Heavy rain meant they could not use as many bikes to deliver the eggs as they would normally have, but with around 25 motorcycles strong contingent who did brave the elements, with the support of 2 cars. Club chairman Derrick Moss first started the run 30 years ago, and to mark the Anniversary 4 people who have left their motorcycling days behind them turned up to support the event, look at the bikes, see the children and talk about old times.

The bikers were welcomed to the Sands Hotel, in Ainsdale, with hot tea and a bacon butty prior to riding in formation to the children's home. Fancy dress was not able to be worn on safety grounds, but that did not stop the fun... Setting off from The Sands, Shore Road, Ainsdale they headed off down the Coastal Road and then on to the Formby By Pass, ending up in Formby, where they paraded noisily through the Village centre, as you can see on our video clip. They then headed across to Clumber Lodge Children's Home. The home located in Formby is run by Nugent Care, and they provide high quality residential care for children and young people. As usual as the bikes arrived at the home like rolling thunder, with horns blaring, the children and staff get very excited and everybody has a wide smile. They then deliver Easter Eggs to the children and a cash donation of £300 presented to the staff to treat the kids. Unfortunately it was not just the rain that put a dampener on proceedings, as one of the support vehicles, as they sorted out the unloading of the Eggs, was given a parking ticket! Once the Eggs and donation have been delivered the bikers make there way back to the Sands Hotel for more refreshment.

The Southport Cruisers Motorcycle Club said they would like to say:- "a big thank Rockerbox MCC for their continued support of the event, the Sands Hotel and all privateers who turned up especially with the weather conditions experienced." Well done to this fantastic local bike club for supporting this amazing local charity. Southport Cruisers organise these runs twice a year, 1 at Easter and 1 at Christmas. The runs would not be so successful without the support of local bikers and the Sands Hotel. If you want to know more about the homes you can visit them on Facebook  and on Twitter, plus you can also go to their main website. If you want to join the Southport Cruisers or find out more about how you can help them with their charity events please email them or visit their Facebook Page.
