Southport District Scouts Groups Annual St George's Parade & Service
ON Sunday, 26 April 2015, the annual St George's celebration took place with hundreds of local children taking part in the annual parade and service. This year, again the Police were unable to help so parents and leaders had to put on hi-viz jackets in order to control traffic and the parade. "We would like to thank all who took part in the parade, especially to those who helping to keep it safe. We would also like to thank the members of the public who stopped to let us march. This is an extremely important event for us and without everyone helping us, we would not have had such a fantastic parade. I am so proud of the people of Southport and of our members!" a spokes woman for the Southport District Scouts told us. The parade started at the Waterside Lodge and marched to Holy Trinity Church, accompanied by Marshside Band. In total, over 500 children and adults took part in the parade as it snaked through Southport in glorious sunshine. The event often gets overlooked, but this year’s event was so popular that the Church filled rapidly, leaving just standing room only at the back. Also all along the route, people stopped and watched. "It is fantastic to see the youth of our town this way. They are a credit to the area and I would love to see them getting more support next year and for years to come." one of the residents commented to our Editor as the parade passed her house.
