Festival in memory of Joseph
A community event in memory of murdered teenager Joseph Lappin is to be held in Old Swan. Army cadet Joseph was the victim of a knife attack in October 2008 as he attended an event at Shrewsbury House. His family are keen to raise awareness of gun and knife crime and the effects it has on all concerned. Joseph had clear ideas on what he wanted to do with his life and was already taking steps to make sure he fulfilled his dreams. The Joseph Lappin Foundation has been established to raise funds to help other young people achieve their dreams. And the Joseph Lappin Centre is a facility with a community led café incorporated, providing a wide range of activities for all ages. An annual festival is held to raise funds for the foundation and centre. This year's event will be held at Doric Park, on Sunday, 17 May, from 12 to 5pm. It will feature live music from local bands and solo artists, a beach complete with deck chair, dance troupes, donkey rides , circus skills, football, dodgeball and a lot, lot more. "There really is something for everybody at the festival. Many of those taking part have given their services free. As well as being a great day out it will raise funds for the Foundation and centre named in honour of Joseph and will help young people make something of their lives as he was striving to do." said Joseph's mother, Toni.
