Local businesses invited to 1st networking event by the Greater Merseyside Learning Providers' Federation

LOCAL businesses invited to 1st networking event by the Greater Merseyside Learning Providers' Federation. Sefton businesses are invited to an exclusive networking event by the Greater Merseyside Learning Providers Federation (GMLPF). GMLPF is hosting its 1st networking event for its members on 19 June 2015, which will allow attendees to learn from each other and provide an opportunity to share ideas and collaborate. The organisation works with many Sefton learning providers to promote and facilitate work based learning. This includes Sefton Borough Council, North West Training Council (NWTC) and Southport College. Taking place in the Rum Warehouse at the Titanic Hotel, the Summer Ball will follow a modern cruise ship theme, with many surprises on the night yet to be announced. The theme for the evening takes inspiration from the programme of events happening this summer to celebrate Cunard's 175th Anniversary. James Glendenning, chief executive of GMLPF says this event to be the 1st of many, adding:- "The aim of the Summer Ball is to provide our members with a unique evening to network, collaborate and forge links with their fellow learning providers. The ball will celebrate our members' hard work and dedication to providing 1st class learning opportunities to young people. As 1 of the largest work based learning provider networks in the country, our aim is to offer our members the best advice; whether that's through practical workshops, staff development or sharing our pool of networks in this sector. This evening will facilitate collaboration between the different businesses and hopefully lead to some exciting opportunities which will benefit the young people in the Liverpool City Region."

GMLPF is a non-profit organisation that champions and supports over 60 Merseyside work based learning providers. Through its involvement with different initiatives, GMLPF aims to help providers improve their standards for apprenticeships and work based learning.

Redrow Reaps rewards for site safety

A hat trick of Redrow developments have received plaudits from the National House Building Council (NHBC) for displaying excellence in health and safety.  The developer has scooped 3 commendations at the annual NHBC Health and Safety Awards. 2 sites in Lancashire, Harbour Village in Fleetwood and The Coppice in Banks near Southport, plus the Compton Park development in Wolverhampton, are now in the running to be named overall regional or national winners at the prestigious awards ceremony at the ICC in Birmingham on 3 July 2015.

Now in their 7th year, the awards are the UK's only health and safety awards scheme exclusively for home builders. Primarily designed to recognise and reward the very best in health and safety, the awards are also helping to drive up safety standards in the industry by showcasing and sharing best practice.  Harbour Village, The Coppice and Compton Park are 3 of just 54 developments nationwide to receive commendations.

David Ford, Group health and safety director for Redrow Homes, said:- "I'm delighted that three of our developments have been recognised by the judges. It's a real team effort and I would like to congratulate the site teams and our contractors for their hard work and determination and wish them the best of luck for the finals. We continue to aim for the highest standards of health and safety. Keeping our staff, contractors and visitors safe on our building sites will continue to be a top priority for Redrow."

To achieve a commendation, building sites are subject to multiple inspection visits carried out by NHBC health and safety advisors. Overall regional and national winners will ultimately be determined by an independent judging panel.  Site manager Stuart Bullough is overseeing the building of new homes at Redrow's Harbour Village venture which lies next to the marina and close to Freeport Fleetwood. Also in Lancashire, The Coppice site manger Shaun Phoenix is leading the creation of new homes in the village of Banks, which is a short drive from the beaches, tourist attractions, bars, cafes and restaurants of Southport.

In the Midlands, Redrow's Compton Park housing venture, run by site manager David Dodd, forms part of a wider £50 million scheme to regenerate the University of Wolverhampton's Compton Park campus. Redrow Homes is 1 of several partners involved in the project, which also includes a football academy and a remodelled school.
