City Celebrates Armed Forces Day
LIVERPOOL'S Lord Mayor will officially
mark the launch of Armed Forces Day next week by raising the flag at the Town
Hall.
On Monday, 22 June 2015, Councillor Tony Concepcion will host a small launch event at
Liverpool Town Hall.
The Armed Forces Flag will fly on the roof of the Town Hall for a week to show
thanks and appreciation to all those who make up our armed services past and
present.
Lord Mayor, Councillor Tony Concepcion said:- "It is a great privilege to
be leading the City's celebrations honouring the bravery of our armed forces
around the world. Armed Forces Day is time for us all to give thanks and
recognise the hard work and dedication of our service personnel, past and
present and to celebrate their commitment to making the world a safer place to
live. It is also a time for reflection and to remember those service personnel
who have given their lives in the line of duty."
Armed Forces Day will be officially marked on Saturday, 27 June 2015, by a short
service at Exchange Flags which will be followed by an Inspection and March Past
by Cadets, Veterans and the Merchant Navy. The march will end at Albert Dock
which has a number of activities for all the family to get involved in as part
of the national celebrations.
Peter Cronin, director of development and marketing for Albert Dock Liverpool,
said:- "It is a privilege and an honour to welcome the armed forces; past
and present; to Albert Dock Liverpool, once a gateway for many service
personnel during times of military conflict. Armed Forces Day is an important
event to observe, as we pay respect to those individuals who display untold acts
of bravery around the world.
As in 2014, Albert Dock Liverpool will be at the heart of the City's
celebrations. Visitors can expect a full and action-packed day of activity for
the whole family to enjoy. There will be military vehicles on display, service
personnel on hand to answer your questions, and some surprises along the way."
Councillor Concepcion added;- "This is a fantastic opportunity to show our
thanks and appreciation for our armed services past and present. I hope we can
encourage as many people as possible to come along to the service, march past
and family day at Albert Dock on Saturday to celebrate this special occasion and
show their support to all our armed forces."
