Record number of runners
attend Decathlon City of Salford 10K
A record number of runners descended on
Salford Quays on Sunday, 6 September 2015, to take part in this year's Decathlon
City of Salford 10K. Those attending included many runners from Liverpool and
Southport running clubs.
The race welcomed more than 3,700 entries from runners who took to the streets
of Salford, following a scenic route around Salford Quays and MediaCityUK.
Chief Executive of Sports Tours International, Chris Bird, commented:-
"Over the past few years the race has continued to grow to become one of most
popular races in the region, and on Sunday we welcomed a record number of
runners. It was a fantastic atmosphere in Salford, the sun was shining and it
was great to see so many runners raising money for important causes. People of
all ages and abilities took part and we would like to thank everyone for making
the effort."
The race started at 10.15am on the MediaCityUK piazza and followed a route
around Salford Quays and Trafford Park before crossing the bridge back into
MediaCityUK to the finish line.
Many runners were raising money for Reubens Retreat, this year's official
charity partner, as well as their own chosen charities.
Europe's leading sportswear and equipment retailer, Decathlon, was the Official
Title Sponsor, and it was team Decathlon who won the Corporate Challenge!
James Douglas from Border Harriers running club, triumphed in the men's race
with an impressive finish time of 31 minutes and 21 seconds. Tesfaye Debele took
second position with 31 minutes and 43 seconds, and Ben Riddell finished in
third place closely behind with a time of 31 minutes and 48 seconds.
In the women's race, first to cross the finish line was Katie Brough in a time
of 34 minutes and 36 seconds. Katie is a Vale Royal runner and Great Britain and
England representative in cross country and track. In second place, Kirsty
Longley from Liverpool Pembroke and Sefton finished in 37 minutes and 8 seconds
and Rhiannon Silson from Border Harriersfinished in third place in 37 minutes
and 35 seconds.
Councillor Peter Dobbs, the Ceremonial Mayor of Salford officially started the
race before cheering on the Ceremonial Mayor of Salford Charity Team who were
raising money for the Salford Mayor's Official Charity.
Sixt UK was the Official Vehicle Provider for the event and runners could take
advantage of pre and post run massages by Therapy First. Club La Santa provided
entertainment for the younger ones at their playtime area, including
face-painting and balloon modelling.
The race organised by Sports Tours International, one of the UK's largest
specialist sports travel companies. The next 10K race is the Grand 10K Run at
Aintree Racecourse, which takes place on Sunday, 20 September 2015.

Flybe connects Liverpool
John Lennon Airport with Amsterdam and the world
FLYBE Europe's largest
regional airline, on 7 September 2015, commenced its new service to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport from Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) giving passengers the
ability to connect onwards to the host of European and long haul destinations
available from this busy international hub.
The 1st flight departed from Liverpool at 7:15am, 7 September 2015, with senior
airport representatives on board, who on arrival at Amsterdam just under 90
minutes later, only to be met by a delegation from Schiphol Airport.
Mark Povall, LJLA's Air Service Development Director, presented Lotte Harbers,
Aviation Marketing Director for Schiphol Airport, with a special:- 'Superlambanana'
gift on behalf of Liverpool to mark the occasion of the
airline's inaugural flight from Liverpool to Amsterdam. The 'Superlambanana' is
a famous 17ft tall sculpture located in Liverpool City Centre.
Flybe now operates up to 3 flights per day between Liverpool and Amsterdam,
departing early morning, lunchtime and late afternoon and that offer the
opportunity for passengers to make many convenient onward long haul connections
available through Amsterdam. Destinations including:- Singapore, Hong Kong,
Tokyo and Shanghai are now all accessible from Liverpool via Amsterdam.

The airline recently committed to further expansion from Liverpool by announcing
a new daily service to Edinburgh which starts at the end of October. It will
also be increasing capaCity on its existing Isle of Man and Belfast City
services with an additional daily departure to both destinations, taking the
total number of flights to and from Liverpool by Flybe to approximately 150 per
week.
Flybe's Chief Commercial Officer, Paul Simmons, said:- "Flybe is delighted

To further mark the launch of the new route, LJLA has partnered with influential
