24 Hour Race 2015
Photographs by Patrick Trollope.
OVER the 12 September and 13 September 2015, teams will
again be on the Southport's Marine Lake, UK competing in the 24 Hour Race. The
event is organised by the West Lancashire Yacht Club and sees teams from all
over the UK and the world, racing continuous for 24 hours, even in extreme
weather. The race is regarded as the leading endurance dinghy race in Europe and
the best social events in the dinghy racing calendar in the world. The small
craft taking part are Enterprise, GP14 and Lark dinghies, and not designed to be
sailed like this, so mistakes and equipment failure can cost teams dearly.
You don’t have to be an ace sailor or crew to take part, but
the race tests all the teams skills to the limit, and in some years Olympic and
Paralympics sailing team members take part as part of their training! Full
coverage of this years events and also lots of photos will be in the next issue.
If you have taken part in the event, please let us know what it was like for
you, by emailing our newsroom at:-

about the race as well as how to enter the next 24 hour Race can be found
