2015, at The Atkinson
'Oh, Whistle', and 'I'll Come to You, My Lad', is a tale of nocturnal horror on the
Suffolk coast and is considered by many to be James's masterpiece. It is
beautifully complemented here by:- 'The Ash Tree', a story of witchcraft and
vengeance down the generations.
M R James is acknowledged as the master of the English Ghost Story. He 1st
performed his supernatural tales to friends at Christmas in King's College,
Cambridge. Now Nunkie Theatre Company have brought two of these unforgettable
spinechillers back to life.
Nunkie Theatre Company was founded in 1996 for a performance of Alan Bennett's
An Englishman Abroad at the Canal Café Theatre in Little Venice, London. After
successful productions in the same venue of Patrick Suskind's The Double Bass
and David Mamet's Squirrels, the company lay dormant for nearly a decade before
being revived by grand panjandrum and actor Robert Lloyd Parry.
Since December 2005 Robert has been performing a trilogy of one man shows based
on the stories of M R James, the greatest writer of supernatural tales in
English. His uncanny resemblance to the author has been noted with a shudder by
more than one enthusiastic audience member.
