New dates added to
exhibition of plans for major new cancer hospital
NEW dates have been added to a mobile
exhibition where people can view designs for the new cancer hospital in
Liverpool and comment before The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation
Trust applies for full planning permission.
The proposals for a new hospital serving the whole of Merseyside and Cheshire
were approved in December 2014 following a 3 month public consultation.
Since then, The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre has been developing detailed
building designs. The new hospital on West Derby Street in Liverpool; next to
Royal Liverpool University Hospital and the University of Liverpool; is set to
become The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre's main base, although its existing
hospitals in Wirral and Aintree will continue as well.
The additional 3 dates are all in hospitals so are ideally located for patients,
visitors and staff, as well as the wider public. The exhibition has already
visited Paradise Street in Liverpool City Centre, on 19 October 2015 and the
remaining dates are:-
► Monday, 2 November 2015, 11am to 6pm; Asda Bromborough, Wirral, CH62 3QP
► Tuesday, 3 November 2015, at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre - Wirral site,
Clatterbridge Road, Bebington, Wirral, CH63 4JY (NEW DATE)
► Friday, 6 November 2015, at Royal Liverpool University Hospital, Prescot Street,
Liverpool, L7 8XP (NEW DATE)
► Tuesday, 10 November 2015, at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre Radiotherapy Unit -
Aintree University Hospital site, Lower Lane, Fazakerley, L9 7AL (NEW DATE)
People can also see information and give their views
online, until 13 November 2015.
As the region's specialist cancer trust, The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre serves
the whole 2.3m population of Merseyside and Cheshire providing highly-advanced
treatment and carrying out groundbreaking research. Its expansion into central
Liverpool; in addition to its existing sites in Wirral and Aintree – will
enable it to further improve treatment for the most complex and seriously ill
patients, and to carry out early-phase trials of new treatments.
The new hospital will provide the full range of specialist non-surgical cancer
care including chemotherapy, radiotherapy, imaging, outpatients, support
services and inpatient beds. It will have a dedicated Teenage and Young Adult
unit.
Proposals for the cancer centre were approved following extensive public
consultation in 2014, with nine in 10 respondents supporting them. They are part
of The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre's £155m investment in Transforming Cancer
Care, which includes redeveloping and refurbishing its Wirral site.
Andrew Cannell, Chief Executive of Transforming Cancer Care, said:- "We
are delighted that we will be applying for full planning permission by the end
of this year for this major new cancer hospital, which will transform cancer
care for people in Merseyside and Cheshire for generations to come. The
exhibitions and information on the website are a fantastic opportunity for
people to see the designs and comment on any aspects related to the planning
application."

Builders wear it Pink
for Breast Cancer Awareness
BUILDERS and site staff working for
local developer David Wilson Homes, donned pink hi-visibility vests last
Friday, 23 October 2015, in support of the Breast Cancer Now campaign.
In addition to sporting pink hi-vis vests and hats, David Wilson Homes North
West division has donated £500 to the cause on behalf of its soon to be
launched development at Pavilion Gardens, in Southport.
Last year, £2m million was raised by wear it pink supporters, funding
life-saving research across the UK and Ireland, and this year campaigners
hope to raise even more through encouraging businesses, schools and
individuals to wear it pink.
Steve Jackson, Sales Director at DWH North West, commented:- "We're
delighted to show our support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month this
October, and raise awareness for a fantastic charity. As well as building
quality homes, we want to help local communities and family charities, and I
think this is a great way to do so. Not only is it a bit of fun, it also
supports important, life-saving research into breast cancer."

People with sight loss
in Southport invited to attend free online skills session
BLIND and partially sighted people
in Southport are invited to attend a free online basic skills session to
help them get online and benefit from technology.
The event is part of RNIB's Online Today scheme to get 125,000 people with
sensory loss online.
The workshop is being delivered by partner organisation Action for Blind
People, at Galloway's Society for the Blind, 22 Wright Street, Southport on
Wednesday, 11 November 2015, Wednesday, 25 November 2015 and Wednesday, 9
December 2015, from 2.30 to 4.30pm, on all 3 days. Anyone with sight and or hearing
loss is welcome to attend on one of the days.
The session will include how to get the most from products such as tablets,
smartphones and eReaders. There will also be the chance to be hands-on and
try out these gadgets and ask questions.
Internet use in the UK has significantly increased over recent years with
76% of adults accessing the internet every day in 2014, compared to just 38%
in 2006. Millions of us rely on the internet for everyday tasks such as
shopping, banking and staying in touch with friends and family. However,
getting online and using technology can present many challenges for someone
who is blind, partially sighted or has hearing loss.
Andrew Coleman, Assistive Technology Coordinator at Action for Blind People,
said:- "Being online can make a huge difference to someone's life. We
hope people with sight or hearing loss in Southport will come along and find
out how technology can open up a whole new world of discovery and
independence."
