Lent Talks at Liverpool Parish Church
THE 1st speaker in the Lent Talks
programme at Liverpool Parish Church is Sir Jon Murphy QPM, Chief Constable
of Merseyside. As Sir Jon prepares for retirement, he will be speaking to
the City about the changing face of policing in Merseyside during his 41
years of service, and particularly during his 6 years as Chief Constable.
The Talk is open to everyone and takes place, at 6.15pm, on Thursday, 18
February 2016, at Liverpool Parish Church on Chapel Street (opposite the
Liver Building). The event will end by 7.15pm, and refreshments are
provided. Sir Jon's Talk is arranged in collaboration with the Philanthropy
Fellowship, run through the Community Foundation for Merseyside.
The Lent Talks at Liverpool Parish Church are possibly the longest running
public lecture series in the City. They began in the 1st half of the 20th
Century and have taken various forms since then, but always with the aim to
entertain, provoke and inspire the audience. A huge variety of the speakers
have appeared over the years, and we continue the tradition of breadth for
the 2016 season.
The Rector of Liverpool, the Revd Dr Crispin Pailing said:- "Sir Jon
is respected in the Force and across the City for his work in the region,
but policing is always challenging and sometimes controversial. I hope that
as many people as possible will come and take this opportunity to hear and
question the man responsible for policing in Merseyside."

Miss England final to
return to the North West

THE Wayfarers Shopping Centre was
awash with the glitz and glamour of the beautiful Miss England Finalists to
reveal the location for the National Finals. Current Miss England Natasha
Hemmings, alongside girls vying for the Miss England crown; Miss
Worcestershire Laure Beth Morgan, Miss Lancashire Lucy Physick, and Miss
North West Christina Cunningham were met by press and photographers to
announce this years National location.
After a long 11 years, the Miss England grand final has now returned to the
beautiful North West of England. 50 regional winners from across the country
will arrive this summer in Southport for the prestigious three day event on
19 July to 21 July 2016, vying for the national crown and a prize worth £25,000. Along
with companies, friends and family, many people will be visiting the
beautiful seaside resort, bringing lots of new and excited visitors to
England's Classic seaside Town.
Since 2005 the national final to find England's candidate for Miss World has
been successfully held across the country, more specifically across the
southern coast in Devon, throughout the breadth of the Midlands, and of
course the big lights of London.
To celebrate the return of Miss England to
the North West, the Miss England Organisation, working alongside Southport
Tourism and Southport Flower Show, created a stunning 'living'
dress for the
current Miss England, Natasha Hemmings, which she wore at the launch on
Thursday, 11 February 2016. Created from fresh cut flowers, a beautiful
dress was and designed and created by the talented team to complement the
Southport famous flower show, and Natasha's natural quintessential beauty.
The Ramada Plaza Hotel, Southport, will be host to this years 50 finalists
and a fast moving fashion show style final will be held in the Southport
Theatre and Convention Centre's Floral Hall on the 21 July 2016, attracting family,
friends and sponsors of the competition from across the country.
Enda Rylands General Manager of the Ramada Plaza Southport said:- "We
are delighted to be welcoming the 50 final contestants to our fantastic
resort and look forward to offering them the very best hospitality in the
region throughout their stay with us here at the Ramada Plaza Southport."
Even though the Miss England competition is being held at the seaside, the
event has moved away from the historical:- 'bathing beauty' image.
Instead contestants will take part in a series of qualifying rounds that
include sports/fitness, fundraising, talent and an Eco-fashion show whereby
contestants are given the chance to use their creative skills and ingenuity
to come up with an outfit made from recycled materials.
Miss Worcestershire Laura Beth Morgan
said:- "My Eco dress I am showcasing today took about 2 weeks to make
and is made out of 400 of Cherry Orchard Publishing Cards. I love being
being creative and can not wait to start thinking about the Eco round for
Miss England this year which the theme is - Classic Era."
Mark Catherall, Sefton Council's Head of Service for Tourism said:-
"We are delighted that Southport has the opportunity to host such a fabulous
event. The resort has an unrivalled reputation when it comes to hosting
national conferences and major public events such as the Southport Air Show,
the British Musical Fireworks Championship and of course; The Southport
Flower Show. We are pleased to be associated with Miss England, an
organisation that promotes such a healthy and positive approach in the
beauty industry and look forward to working with the team."
Miss Lancashire Lucy Physick says:- "I especially look forward to
promoting a health body and mind, with the Miss England sports round showing
ambition, determination and most of all team work. These are just three key
aspects which young women and men of should make a priority in their lives."
Over the last 5 years the Miss England competition has raised more than
£700k for disadvantaged children and families in the UK using the Miss World
slogan:- "Beauty with a Purpose". This includes funding custom-built,
adapted coaches for disabled children at specialist schools. Over £225k has
been raised in the North West by regional Miss England contestants and donated
to the Variety Children's charity. For more details please visit:-
BeautyWithaPurpose.com. Miss England Natasha Hemmings says:-
"I'm so excited for the National Finals to come to my local area, I have
had an incredible year so far and to bring the prestigious and charitable
competition to the North West is an incredible way to showcase somewhere I
am very proud to call my home." |
