Local Councillor among 9
people charged over allegations of fraud at Southport Care Home
THIS week Merseyside Police have
charged 3 people following an investigation into allegations of fraud at Barton
Park Care Home, on Oxford Road, Southport, following on from 6 others being
charged on 26 February 2016. We are told that the allegations are all related to
an 18 year period, between 1997 and 2015.
The latest 3 to be charged are:-
Kiria Hughes, aged 40. She is due to appear at South Sefton Magistrates Court on
16 March 2016.
Colette Morris, aged 41. She is due to appear at South Sefton Magistrates Court
on 18 May 2016.
Rosemary Booth aged 66 years. She is due to appear at South Sefton Magistrates
Court on 18 May 2016.
Among those charged on 26 February 2016, was a
local Southport Conservative Councillor, David Richard Barton, who is aged 26.
He has since been suspended from the Conservative Party, pending the outcome of
the Court case. This is in accordance with the national Conservative party rules
on matters like this.
The others charged, following consultation with the Specialist Fraud Division of
the Crown Prosecution Service, included:- Lucinda Jayne Barton, aged 53, Thomas
Mills, aged 70, David Charles Barton, aged 22, Nichola Susan Pimlott, aged 58
and Ramamurthie Dasaratha David Barton, aged 61.
All those charged on 26 February 2016 will appear before South Sefton
Magistrates in Bootle on 29 April 2016.
The Barton family have told the media that:-
"We are determined to fight all the charges and clear our names of the
allegations brought against us."
We visited the Barton Park's Retirement Information Centre, on the corner of
Post Office Avenue and St. George’s Place (Lord Street), Southport, for any
further comments, but we could not obtain a response at the door.
