Fatal Fire in stables at Shorrocks
Hill Country Club, Formby
ON Thursday, 25 August 2016, a fire
that started at Shorrocks Hill's Stables lead to the discovery of a body of a
male, who was found inside the stables.
The cause of the man’s death and the fire that completely destroyed the stable
building and a caravan is not yet known.
The man who died in a fire is believed to be Andrew Coogan. Officers have spoken
to the family of Mr Coogan but Merseyside Police have stressed that at this
stage no formal identification has taken place. We are told that Mr Coogan’s
sister ran the stables, on the grounds of Shorrocks Hill, which is located on
Lifeboat Road, in Formby. Investigators at the scene also confirmed that the
deceased man was found in the stables, not a caravan as first stated.
It is reported that Emergency services were called to the stables at about
5.40am. On arrival, firefighters found the body of a man inside and that a
number of horses had also died.
The fire, which has been extinguished by Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and
a joint Merseyside Police and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service investigation
has been launched.
No one else has been reported injured. Anyone with information is asked to
contact Merseyside Police on:- 0151 777 3055 or on the:- 101 number.
Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on:- 0800 555 111.
