The 50th 24 Hour Race to be
held in Southport
THE historic event is now in its 50th
year and still going strong. The event was 1st held from the Victoria Baths on
the Promenade, in Southport, back in 1961, but later moved to a purpose build
club house on the other side of the Marine Lake. This premiere world class event
is still run by the West Lancashire Yacht Club and is the UK's No.1 dinghy
endurance race. The race attracts teams from all round the world, including
Olympic gold medal sailors. The event this year will take place over 17
September to 18 September 2016. If you are in Southport over that weekend,
please do pop over to the lake and take a look. Also please do cheer the teams
on as the go round and round the lake, in what is a very challenging course. It
might be relatively safe waters, but that is not to say the sailing is easy or
without action, especially over night! For more information visit:-
