- Trust is named in the 40 Top Hospitals Award
- Report by Nicky Williams.
STAFF at Southport and Ormskirk Hospital celebrated this week after being named one of the top performing trusts in the country.
The welcome news follows an independent survey by the country’s leading hospital benchmarking company, CHKS – CASP (Clinical Accountability Services Planning and Evaluation) Healthcare Knowledge Services.
For the second year running, the Trust entered the listings and scooped an award from 86 hospital trusts that entered into the performance ratings table, in which the hospital finished in the top forty.
Commenting on the Trust’s achievement, Chief Executive Jonathan Parry said,
“This is a fantastic achievement to be named in the top 40 hospital listings for the second year in a row that we have entered. We wouldn’t have received this award if it weren’t for all the hard work of every staff member. It shows that their skill, dedication and commitment have improved the quality of care we provide to our patients and the health community.”
It is the third year running an independent survey has been carried out by CHKS. The group focused on a range of acute hospitals, from major teaching trusts to district-based hospitals. The study is not a league table and all the trusts entered for the programme because they wanted their performance to be measured against recognised health standards.
This year a number of NHS Trusts have improved their performance in the indicators selected by CHKS, making the achievement of 40Top listing that much harder.
All Trusts who entered were examined by 15 indicators, which were collated to provide an accurate representation of performance from a clinical and managerial standpoint and most importantly, from the patients’ perspective.
Chief Executive of CHKS International, Graham Harries, said, “To be awarded CHKS 40Top hospital status, each hospital has to achieve a high level of performance across all the indicators. This demonstrates to their local residents that their hospitals are well managed and focused on the needs of their patients.“
He explained that the 40 top hospitals are not listed in order. They are all achievers of high quality care, are not required to take part in the survey, and have invited CHKS to work for them. Their openness and determination to provide the very best services to their patients should be ‘applauded’.
