Royal Signals Association Annual Christmas Dinner

THE Southport and District Branch of the Royal Signals Association held its Annual Dinner, on Saturday, 10 December 2016, within the International Suite of the Prince of Wales Hotel, Southport, Merseyside. Colonel Ian Thomson TD, presided and the principal guest was Mr Jim Pritchard. The Branch Chairman, Mr Les Harrison, proposed the toast to 'Absent Friends' at the appropriate moment. This was 1 of the many events the Association hold though out the year.

Any person who has served, or is serving in the Royal Corps of Signals, will be most welcome, and the Branch also welcomes, as Associate Members, former members of the Royal Engineers and REME who reside in the Southport and District area. The Southport Branch meets monthly in the Prince of Wales Hotel, on Lord Street, Southport." said Fraser Gordon, who is a local member of the Royal Signals Association.

Southport Cruisers Motorcycle Club Christmas Charity Run

ON 11 December 2016, the Southport Cruisers Motorcycle Club hit the road to deliver gifts to Clumber Lodge Children's Home, in Formby. Over Ł500 was raised by the local club on this Christmas Run. This is just one of the many charity rides the club runs over the year. The other big event, again for the Children's Home, in Freshfield, Formby is the 'Easter Egg Run' and they are already planning it and asking for donations to make the 2017 event the biggest yet. The club also organise and runs many other social events even holidays for its members when its not collecting for charity. Rogue One - A Star Wars Story has the Force at Vue Southport

THE Ł200 million Disney and Lucasfilm's Rogue One is set to be the block buster of 2016 and now the keenly awaited film has finally come out on 13 December 2016. This has been eagerly anticipated by star Wars fans and it has ignited a whole new galaxy of excitement. This could be seen at Southport's Vue Cinema, when members of the Rebellion, had to sneak past the Jedi Knight, Darth Vader and his followers. Whether this plot about a group of unlikely heroes, who are banded together by the Rebellion, in order to steal the plans for the Death Star, will be as big a hit in the long run as the original series remains to be seen... so far the Force is strong with this film, as it is already bringing out the audiences, young and old alike.
