SOUTHPORT'S annual flower show took place over 17 August
to 20 August 2017. This annual show attracted around 50,000 people. The show is
held in Victoria Park, and it is the largest independent flower show in the
country.
This year's event was theme was entitled:-
"Curious, and Curiouser…"
Gardeners of the show gardens were encouraged to design them to this theme,
and did so with a wide variety of interpretations.
Over the 4 days, the event held a host of sub events that included:- a Ladies
Day, Grand Floral Gala Evening, Food Fest, and a Bee's and Honey Festival.
The Ladies Day, took place on Friday, and as normal it proved to be popular, as
tickets again sold out very fast. The glamorous event included a 2 course lunch,
entertainment, and a 'best dressed' competition, along with
special entertainment and lots of fantastic offers from exhibitors. Don't miss
it next year (2018) if you did not get your ticket this year!
This year's show had lots of family friendly entertainment. The main arena
offered:- The Knights of the Damned, Ben Potter's Eagle and Vulture Experience,
H&M Dog Display Team, and Mark Wylie and the Drakes of Hazard.
If you have not seen them, The Knights of the Damned hosted a series of
thrilling jousting performance, which was full of energy and charisma. H&M Dog
Display Team was very wooferly and the dogs did a series of special tricks, and
team members demonstrated aggression control in canines. Some animals even
jumped through hoops of fire. Ben Potter wowed many with his impressive
collection of magnificent birds of prey throughout the event as well. On
Saturday though, was particularly windy and some of the birds initially had
difficulty flying, but the Eagle and Vulture Experience did not disappoint.
Live performances were also at Southport Flower Show. Singing and jazz music was
enjoyed by many, along with contributions by many others, including the Rock
Choir.
This year's special guests included:- Ben Faulks, David Domoney, Charlie Dimmock,
and Justin Fletcher. Ben Faulks is best known for his appearance on CBeebies as
'Mr Bloom.'
Ben Faulks took to the stage at Southport Flower Show on Sunday. But for many it
was Justin Fletcher is also best known for his role on the popular CBeebies
show:- 'Mr Tumble' and 'Justin's House' who gained
the most interest on the Saturday... But both did a fantastic job of keeping
show goers entertained.
Indeed, there is a lot on offer for young children at this year's Southport
Flower Show, including the return of the Virtual Garden marquee.
David Domoney is a TV gardener and presenter on ITV's 'Love Your Garden'
was also 1 of many celebs who appeared at Southport Flower Show. His top
tips were welcomed by his audience as did Charlie Dimmock. Charlie Dimmock, if
you don't already know, is a well known gardening expert and TV presenter, best
known for being on the BBC's gardening makeover programme 'Ground Force.'
