CRAIG DAVID, one of the hottest properties in pop, has completed the bill
for the Liverpool Summer Pops by announcing a one-off show at the Kings Dock
Big Top Arena on Monday July 21st. Tickets are on sale now from the Red
Square Ticket Hotline on 0870 746 0000.
The 22 year-old Southampton-born pop prodigy has already enjoyed No1 hit
albums such as 'Born To Do It' and 'Slicker than Your Average' and is
currently at Number 5 in the charts with his duet with Sting, 'Rise and
Fall'
With building work on the 4-500 capacity Big Top Arena having already begun
this week, the City is bracing itself for the most spectacular array ofstars it has ever seen: 30 shows in a little over a month and an expected
record attendance of over 100,000.
As Liverpool prepares for the announcement on the bid to become European
Capital of Culture, The Summer Pops is a massive shot in the arm for the
'Let it be Liverpool' campaign. None of the other competing cities can boast
an event as culturally diverse.
The bill now includes big names in every field of music and entertainment:
from the Godfather of Soul JAMES BROWN, to the Modfather PAUL WELLER, from
the latest pop sounds of BLUE, BUSTED and THE SUGABABES to some of the
biggest selling pop acts of all time JULIO IGLESIAS and SIMPLY RED; from the
classic rock of DEEP PURPLE and YES to the classical blockbuster of THE LAST
NIGHT OF THE POPS, LESLEY GARRETT and the West End glitz of THE RAT PACK.
Add an appearance by Slowhand himself ERIC CLAPTON in a one-off special
UNICEF charity show with Blues legend JOHN MAYALL and a five night sold out
run by the UK's hottest comedian PETER KAY along with many more shows and
the list of stunning big names from every genre is breathtaking.
Mike Storey Leader of Liverpool City Council said:- "It's a world class line
up for this year's Summer Pops - and there can be nowhere better to hold it
than the official World Capital of Pop. The 2003 Summer Pops will be a
fantastic five week long party!"
Chas Cole, Summer Pops promoter, said:- "Everything is in place for a
fantastic festival. Merseyside audiences have proved over the past few years
that they are the best in the world. The response from the public so far
have been excellent and I'm confident that they will keep flocking to Big
Top for another summer of the best possible entertainment."
