10 year sentence for
Southport man following a domestic assault
MERSEYSIDE Police are welcoming the
sentence of a 22 year old, Ryan Quigley, from Southport, who has been sentenced
to 10 years imprisonment after the domestic assault that took place on Saturday,
4 March 2017. The Court heard that Ryan Quigley had been arrested on following
the incident, which occurred on a footbridge off Marine Parade, Southport, that
left a 19 year old with facial injury. The Court was also told that
immediately following the incident, Quigley was injured in a collision with a
passing car and taken to Hospital, also that a knife had been recovered close to
the scene.
Detective Inspector Tony O'Brien said:- "This was an extremely nasty
domestic incident in which Quigley lured the victim to the location and
attempted to slash her with a knife, and thankfully she was not more seriously
injured. I would like to thank the members of the public who provided valuable
accounts to assist the investigation, and after we issued a media appeal.
Quigley has now been removed from the streets for a significant period of time,
and I hope this sentence gives his victim some peace of mind and encourages
people who are victims of domestic abuse to get in touch, and be assured that we
will fully support victims in the investigation of such crimes."
