New award recognising Police Family
Liaison Officers launched
BRAKE, the road safety charity, is
delighted to confirm the launch of 2 new awards, recognising the outstanding
achievements of Police Family Liaison Officers.
Launched at Brake's annual Police Family Liaison Conference, in Birmingham, on 12
October 2017, the awards will recognize the achievements and support provided by FLO's.
The awards will consist of two separate prizes; an 'Outstanding Officer
Achievement' award, open for Police staff to nominate peers, and a
'Victim Award,' nominated by families supported by an FLO.
Following a judging process, the awards ceremony will take place during Brake's
annual reception, at the Houses of Parliament in June 2018. The winners of both
awards will then be invited to present their case study at Brake's 2018 Family
Liaison Conference.
This award would not be possible without the kind support of headline sponsors
Slater and Gordon Lawyers. Both awards will open for nominations, on 2 January
2018. Entry forms will be available for download from Brake's
website. All nominations
must be received by 2 March 2018. For further information about either award,
can be obtained by sending them an

Helen Hargrave, Director of Victim Services, at Brake, the road safety charity
said:- "The role of the Family Liaison Officer is crucial in the aftermath
of a road death or serious injury, and we are pleased to announce this award,
recognising the vital work of family liaison Officers. At Brake, we are
incredibly proud of the relations we have developed with forces across the
country, and are delighted to offer this opportunity to commend best practice.
These 2 awards offer a great opportunity for peers and families to recognise
the invaluable work of FLO's. We would encourage any family or Officer who feels
that a FLO has gone the extra mile to nominate them for this award, and look
forward to reading some excellent examples of best practice in liaison and
support."
Martin James, National Head of Serious Injury at Slater and Gordon Lawyers, said:-
"Through my years of experience in supporting families bereaved and
seriously injured in road crashes, I am incredibly aware of how important the
support of Police Family Liaison Officers is. Officers who undertake this
voluntary role can offer a huge amount of comfort and support to families,
during their darkest hours. Slater and Gordon are delighted to be able to
support this awards scheme, and to help celebrate and promote the fantastic
achievements of FLO's."
