FORMBY residents and
visitors to the Village have been able to see the
Formby
Rotary
Club's
Carol Wagon.
This tradition has taken place for well over 40 years, and we are trying to find
out when it actually started. If you know, please do let us know, and
especially, if possible, the name of the person who started it. For many years,
it has taken Father Christmas on a tour of the streets around Formby Village.
Sadly, not all the roads can be covered by the small army of volunteers, but as
the Village has expanded, so has the route. The idea is not only to bring some
Christmas spirit to those who see it, but also to raise funds for charities that
the Club support though-out the year. We had the privilege of following them on
part of the group?s 2nd to last rounds of 2017. These are a few photographs and
some video footage we took of them as they interacted with young and old. On our
footage and pictures are some images of the fantastic Christmas Light display on
a house, that's was located on the route of the Carol Wagon. The house is
decorated
annually by, by a local Formby gardener, James Comish Landscapes and family, to raise funds for:-
DoItForDan.UK
for more information. Congratulations
to all who took part in this year?s Carol Wagon activities, and a special thanks
to Father Christmas, who has taken took part every year since it started. Please
do let us know your views and thoughts about this annual event, via emailing us
to:-
News24@SouthportReporter.com; especially if you know the full history
of this tradition.
