MERSEYSIDE Police have launch murder investigation after
what is though to have been a 'domestic incident' in Southport's
TUI Travel Agency, on Chapel Street.
We are told that a female travel agent, later formally identified
as Cassie Hayes, who was from Southport, was attacked within
the Southport TUI Travel Agents, in front of terrified shoppers, in what is thought to have
been a 'domestic related incident.' The incident is reported to have started at
around 1:25pm on Saturday, 13 January 2018 and has left the local community in
shock.
2 Air Ambulances along with a Land Ambulance and a couple advance
paramedics were sent to the incident. We have also been informed by the North West
Ambulance Service that a 28 year old Cassie Hayes was taken to Southport Hospital,
where she subsequently died from her injuries. Merseyside Police have
confirmed they have started a murder investigation.
A media statement from TUI said:- "We regret to confirm
that a female member of staff has been involved in an incident at our Southport
TUI retail store, on Saturday, 13 January 2018. We're doing everything possible
to assist the Police with their investigation and support our staff and
customers at this difficult time. We will issue further statements as soon as
information becomes available."
Officers from Merseyside Police at this point believed that the incident was
'domestic related' and the woman's next of kin have been informed.
A 30 year old male, from the St Helens area, has been arrested on
suspicion of murder and is currently being held in custody. Detectives are
appealing to anyone with information to contact Merseyside Police on:- 101
quoting log:- '470 of 13 January 2018' or call the Crimestoppers
line anonymously on:- 0800 555 111.
