The iconic Lord Street canopy outside Bistrot Pierre are returning!
WORK to replace the iconic canopies on Lord Street's Bistrot Pierre's started on Monday, 29 January 2018. The new French restaurant opened back in November 2017, but sadly it had to open without the buildings landmarks iconic structure in place. A few weeks before the opening, as extensive refurbishment work to transform the former Russell and Bromley shoe shop took place, wind damaged crucial components within the historic structure. Following an inspection of the damage, it was found that the sea air had, over the years, corroded the metalwork so badly that it had to be fully replaced. For around 3 months the historic corner of Lord Street and Nevill Street, was left without its canopy. Some residents had raised concerns at the time, worried it would be lost for ever. Thankfully this undressed building will be back to is former self, if not better very soon! In the very early hours of 30 January 2018, at around 4am, the 1st of the many brand new sections began to be assembled and lifted into place. The work is expected to be complete by 15 February 2018. Once finished it will be able to be enjoyed once again, safely, for many more generations to come.
