- LIVERPOOL
LORD’S
MAYOR’S PARADE.

- DECENT
weather, dry, sunny and warm, drew large crowds, who thronged the route of the Lord Mayor’s Parade in Liverpool last Saturday. The news of Liverpool’s triumphal achievement in becoming the European Capital of Culture 2008 brought an extra feeling of pride and gaiety to the proceedings for participators and spectators alike.
The parade was led
by a town crier, a person on stilts and two who performed ballet type acrobats, a military band and the mayoral coach carrying the Lord Mayor of Liverpool. Then came the painstakingly decorated floats with happy enthusiastic people of all ages adding to the displays. The floats were ingeniously although not lavishly decorated and the performers went through their paces to entertain the crowds on the way.
Assorted pipe bands, the most striking being the Army Cadet Pipe Band, helped to add ‘rhythm’ to the proceedings and encouraged the participants on their way. The marching contingents were an added attraction; many, including the Cadet Units, on the parade were smartly turned out, and extremely well disciplined.
People gave enthusiastically to the Lord Mayor’s Appeal putting coins and notes in the collecting tins having enjoyed the spectacle as usual.
Congratulations to all concerned including the support services who provided essential back-up so efficiently.
