Southport Air Show 2018
Photos by Patrick Trollope.

OVER 6 July to 8 July 2018, the Southport Air Show took place in the skies above the Merseyside seaside resort. The event was opened by the world famous Red Arrows, then followed an incredible aerial display as aircraft with LED lights and pyrotechnics light up the the night, culminating with Fireworks.

Saturday was extremely hot and sunny, in fact hotter than Miami, but it was not just the flying that got everyone excited. Saturday also featured a giant screen for football fans to catch the England clash against Sweden, topped off with skywriters making sure everybody in Southport knew the final score.

Also, as hopes of a World Cup victory were still high, a special message:- "It's Coming Home" written in huge letters on the sandy beach, being revealed only when the Tigers free fall team jumped out of their plane and snapped a special selfie with the sandart.

Cllr Marion Atkinson, Sefton Council's Labour Cabinet Member Regeneration and Skills, said:- "Yet again the Southport Air Show proved to be an amazing weekend for all! "Visitors enjoyed incredible aerial and ground spectacles throughout all three days and the weather was near perfect. Friday night in particular was a fantastic evening with fireworks, artillery and LED aerial displays. Thousands of people flocked to Southport and Sefton over the weekend, which will have had a real positive impact on local businesses in and around the Town. We are already looking forward to the British Musical Fireworks in September."

Southport has a huge amount of amazing events to come this Summer, including:- the Southport Flower Show, which attracts over 50,000 visitors each year to the town, with this year's show falling on 16 August to 19 August 2018, at Victoria Park. Tickets can be obtained online at:- SouthportFlowerShow.Co.UK  and Don't forget The British Musical Fireworks Championship take place across 3 nights, from 28 September to 30 September 2018. Tickets are now on sale from ₤4.50 online via:- VisitSouthport.Com. Both are splendid events and just examples of what the area has to offer locals and tourists alike.
