Special music festival for people with disabilities - G-Fest2018

ON 23 September 2018, D-Fest, a special festival for people with disabilities, living the North West of England, will be held at Oaklea Barns Guest House, in Lydiate, thanks to Southport's Learning Rooms. This will be a 1st of its kind event for Merseyside and is being specially designed to allow those with a wide range of disabilities the chance to experience a music festival within a safe and supportive environment.

The Learning Rooms are a new charity, which provides a range of unique services and opportunities for adults with learning difficulties, as well as those with physical and/or mental disabilities, and is located within the old Four Seasons Garden Centre, on Liverpool Road, Birkdale. With their expert knowledge, the team have brought together a fantastic line up of bands as well as other forms of entertainment, such as:- inflatable's, games, stalls, food and drink vendors and much more, for those attending the event. There will be fully accessible toilets, which include changing spaces and hoists, and the charity also offers to provide carers for the day if required! Tickets will include:- 2 free drinks, zorbs, bouncy inflatable's and more!

So, if you know anyone who you think would like to go to this event, please do let them know about it. It is only a few days away, but they still have some spaces left. For more information about them and also about the services the Learning Rooms provide, please go to their website or call:- 01704 551521. We had the honour of visiting them a few days back to have a preview of the work they are doing to open up new facilities at the centre, and what we saw was extremely inspiring. If they put in the same attention to detail as they are doing with the venue, this event will be amazing!

These photos we have on this report are of the venue located at:- The Learning Rooms, 224A Liverpool Road, Southport, Merseyside, PR8 4PD.

Miss Southport 2018 finds a hidden climbing challenge in Southport
Photographs with thanks to VAMPHire.com.

JENNIFER Amy Leigh, who is Miss Southport 2018, attended Southport's YMCA to find out more about its hidden climbing wall. The 23 year old, who comes from Southport, heads to Liverpool to train indoors regularly, but had never realized that Southport has a hidden climbing challenge. The YMCA has recently been reopened by a group of volunteers and within the complex are a host of sports centre facilities, which includes a bouldering wall, which was built in 1992, within a converted squash court. The room contains slab, overhanging and roof sections designed by Lyon. The group currently running the facility offers a course that builds you up over a number of sessions and then takes you out to the Lakes for outdoor training. But just having the wall, even if you are experienced, means you are able to keep your skills up and try out ideas, within the safety of the controlled environment. It might not be as big as some of the venues within the Liverpool area, but it’s cheaper and easier to get to if you’re in the Southport area and wanting to keep your skills up.  This wall system caters for both kids and adults. Contact:- 07849147922 for more information.

Jennifer said:- "This is amazing. I never new it was hear.  I will definitely be returning, not only to use this wall but also to have a go at roller skating!"  as she had a go at the Ladies Net Ball, as well!

The YMCA in Southport offers a gym, squash courts, the unrestricted climbing walls, football and futsal coaching as well as Ladies Net Ball and of course roller skating!  Pop on in to the venue, located on Hoghton Street, Southport, PR9 0PR.
