The Royal Pigeon Racing Association British Olympiad Show will be flying into Exhibition Centre Liverpool

THE prestigious British Olympiad Show this year takes place at Exhibition Centre Liverpool on Sunday 18 November. The Olympiad will play host to over 400 racing pigeons and feature a diverse range of trade stands exhibiting new innovations and pigeon racing essentials. The Olympiad will also be the setting for UK team selection for the Pigeon Olympiad in Poznan, Poland 2019. The show is perfect for both fledgling and experienced fanciers and for those of all ages interested in taking up a new hobby.

The Royal Pigeon Racing Association (RPRA) is dedicated to raising the profile of pigeon racing and has held many races and events across the country this year to commemorate 100 years since the end of World War One. Representatives from the RPRA will be attending the British Olympiad Show to highlight the involvement of the birds and discuss the various educational opportunities available to Schools.

If your school is interested to know more about the RPRA, it offers free School lesson based visits. 1 package highlights the role of pigeons, in both World Wars and includes subjects such as:- war poetry, code breaking and more. The RPRA also offers a session regarding modern day racing and covers a number of subjects including:- Geography, Mathematics and Science. Representatives will be able to discuss these packages with any visitors in attendance at the show.

Ian Evans, CEO of the RPRA comments:- "We are delighted to be attending the British Olympiad Show in November and we are looking forward to catching up with members and meeting new fanciers. The RPRA is committed to raising the profile of pigeon racing and we have held a number of commemorative races throughout 2018 to recognise the centenary since the end of World War 1. We hope we can encourage more people to take up the sport at the show and highlight the amazing packages that we offer to Schools and educational establishments. This is an extremely important aspect of our work and we hope that by introducing more young people to the sport that it will be around for generations to enjoy. We encourage anyone thinking about taking up pigeon racing to join us at the Exhibition Centre Liverpool so we can meet you and talk to you in more detail."


Hospital holds memorial service to remember loved ones

SOUTHPORT and Ormskirk Hospitals are holding a memorial service for anyone wishing to remember a loved one. The service will be held at Marshside Road Methodist Church (PR9 9TL), Southport, at 10.30am, on Sunday, 4 November 2018. Parking available in the car park, from the Radnor Drive Entrance.  Anybody wishing to remember a loved 1 is welcome to attend. The service will be led by the Rev Martin Abrams and the Rev Jan Fraser from the Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care Service. Dr Karen Groves, Consultant in Palliative Medicine, will also be taking part.  After the service, there will be time for reflection, conversation and refreshments.  The Church is near the corner of Marshside Road and Cambridge Road (PR9 9TL). 

Rev Abrams said:- "There are many ways people like to remember loved ones. This is a warm invitation to come along for anyone who would wish to do it in the context of a Church service. We hope the time together will be gentle, supportive and encouraging. There will be different ways of remembering, including the opportunity to light a candle of remembrance, place a flower of remembrance and tie a ribbon in memory of someone special on the tree of remembrance."
