Liverpool City Region's New Music Board has been Launched

ON Monday, 21 January 2019, within the British Music Experience, located at the historic Cunard Building, both the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and Culture Liverpool revealed the members of the new Liverpool City Region Music Board. To mark the announcement, the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Metro Mayor, Steve Rotheram, hosted a formal launch event bringing together representatives from organizations across the Liverpool City Region. It's hoped that the new Liverpool City Region Music Board will help cement the City Region's position as 1 of the world's music capitals and also build on its status as the only English UNESCO's City of Music.

The LCR Music Board is made up of 18 members and 8 observers from across the music industry; including such well known figures as Andy McCluskey of OMD and Pete Hooton from The Farm; will give music businesses and communities in the Liverpool City Region a stronger voice in local and regional decision making.

Rebecca Ayres, Managing Director Liverpool Sound City.

Ian Thomas, Chair of LCR Music Education Alliance.

Steve Levine, music producer.

Craig Pennington, editor of Bido Lito!

Matthew Flynn, University of Liverpool Music Industries.

Paul Gallagher, Deputy director at Museum of Liverpool.

Ben Williams, Commercial Director, ACC LIverpool.

Andy McClusky, OMD vocalist.

Cath Hurley, mostedeffo music manager.

Hannah McKearnen, Independent Accessibility and Inclusion advocate.

Yaw Owusu, Playmaker Group, LIMF.

Catherine Tackley, Head of Music, University of Liverpool.

Alok Nayak, MILAPFEST.

Barbara Phillips, Positive Impact.

Anne Thwaite, Arabic Arts Festival.

Jennifer John, Sense of Sound.

The LCR Music Board is set to consider 5 key priorities identified through the recent:- 'Developing a Liverpool City of Music Strategy' report to bring about change to sustain, support and develop the music sector across the Liverpool City Region.  This consists of safeguarding and protecting music venues, the growth of current and future music heritage as well as developing the Beatles legacy and increasing access to music education and engaging and developing new talent.

"The music sector, is also hugely important For this City economically In terms of the social fabric and cohesion Of Liverpool in the City Region. The challenge for us now is to build on the ground work from the past and to now address practically things that will help the sector fulfil its potential for the City and City Region. We need to looking at areas like music education along with skills and talent development. We need to get a making sure we've got a really robust and resilient misic industry for the future, by growing the network of venues, helping to both establish and new rehearsal facilities, studios. We mist also make 100% that we are taking advantage of all the opportunities the Region has from tourism, via delivering capitalizing on the Beatlse' Legacy and the other amazing acts that have come out of the Region. We must also push the 1st fact we are the only English UNESCO's City of music and use that to help boost Tourism." said a Board Member to us.

Merseyside Singer / Songwriter Average Joseph has been crowned:- 'National Champion for Future Music Songwriting Competition 2018'


FUTURE Music's National Songwriting Competition has found its latest winner! Joining a long line of prestigious:- 'Future Music' competition winners, Average Joseph, from Runcorn, has been crowned the 2018 Champion of the national contest which took place at the Indigo O2!

The national contest is brought to you by:- 'Future Music' - the company behind the discovery of so many top UK acts. Artists such as such as Jacob Banks, Lucy Spraggan, Union J's Jaymi Hensley and Karen Harding have all been previous past winners or participated in the competitions. And of course, the 1st ever winner for their sister competition:- 'Open Mic UK - Warner Music's Birdy.'

After impressing the judging panel at the auditions, Average Joseph battled through the various regional heats, and went on to perform in the live showcases, battling through both Regional and Area Final heats to make it to the National Grand Final.
